Long term effect of reduced pack sizes of paracetamol on poisoning deaths and liver transplant activity in England and Wales: interrupted time series analyses | BMJ | Organ Donation & Transplant Matters Resources | Scoop.it

As reported in the British Medical Journal the objective of this study was to assess the long term effect of United Kingdom legislation introduced in September 1998 to restrict the pack sizes of paracetamol on deaths from paracetamol poisoning and liver unit activity.

Although an impact was seen in that there were fewer deaths from paracetamol poisoning, there has not been the same expected drop in the rates of liver transplantation. These results lead the authors of the report to make further recommendations in the discussion section of the report on the marketing of paracetamol.
