In a move to bring in greater transparency and tackle the illegal kidney trade while prioritising those in urgent need of renal transplant across India, the National Organ and Transplant Centre has come out with draft guidelines that aim to determine the criteria for receiving a kidney from a deceased donor.

 

This is the first stage in a process that has commenced within India of moving to a national centrally co-ordinated system for the allocation of all organs from deceased donors.
