For Lung Transplants, Researchers were Surprised to Learn that Bigger Appears to Be Better as reported via
Science Daily (press release)
To date the survival rates for lung transplants, unfortunately, are not as good as with other solid organ transplants like liver, kidney and heart. Hence researchers in the United States looked at data on the size of the donor lungs versus the size of the lung ransplant recipient to see what impact there was with size mismatching.
It appears that donor lungs that are slightly larger than the recipients normal lungs may confer a survival advantage over the recipient receiving lungs that are smaller than their own lungs.
