This is the online news report of a review that has been undertaken the organ donation practices within the United States, that lead to children receiving transplanted organs.

 

By looking at the statistics covering all liver, kidney, heart, lung, pancreas and small bowel donations, the team found that just over 14,200 American children received an organ transplant in the study time frame.

 

Mention is also made of the increasing trend in pediatric DCDD (Donation post Cardiocirculatory Determination of Death) organ donation within the United States.

The results of a study published online in a medical journal have led experts to call for a 'Change to the rules on small baby organ donors' within the United Kingdom (UK). Because of the current limitation on the lower age limit for small paediatric organ donors, in the  UK a baby in need of a life saving heart donation - where only small newborn hearts are suitable for transplant - often needs to wait until a donor organ is flown in from somewhere else.
