The recent death of a middle aged Canadian anesthesiologist (anaesthetist) who then went on to be an organ donor has attracted media attention.
During her life Dr Jennifer Bender had publicly advocated for organ donation. Hence it came as a shock to everyone who knew her when she recently collapsed and went on to die in hospital.
Mourning colleagues have been quick to point to the eight or so lives that may have been saved by Jennifer Bender’s thoughtfulness and discussions with her immediate family about organ donation.
