This report of clinical research undertaken in Italy reveals that HIV should not be a barrier to getting a liver transplant as long as patients meet certain criteria.


The key message of this study is that liver transplantation is a valid option for HCC (liver cancer) treatment in HIV-infected patients," the study's authors wrote in a journal news release.

Deborah Verran's insight:

For patients with HIV where the virus can be contrilled with antiviral agents, liver transplantation is a viable therapy as long as other general selection criteria are also able to be met.
