Koi usually are as you probably know already, are descendants of carp. The word "Koi" was first used around 2,000 years ago in China. Koi have been utilized in Japanese craft along with designs and carvings while some Chinese rulers kept carp in captivity for their own viewing satisfaction. Mating of carp used for color patches did begin in China. The oriental brown rice farmers would utilize them for cooking and started to breed some for beauty. Big part the credit would go to the Japanese since the creators of Nishikigoi, and sometimes we call them, Koi or Living Ornaments.
