Are you a young woman, aged 18 to 25?Are you passionate about young women's engagement in democracy?Do you have experience as a facilitator/workshop leader?

Then this opportunity is for you!

Challenge 39%…

…is a project running in conjunction with Parliament Week focusing on women in democracy; you can find out more about Parliament week here.

…an opportunity to explore issues and experiences of UK democracy with leading female parliamentarians

…the chance to design and deliver your very own workshop about women in democracy in your local region

Why 39%

In the last general election only 39% of women aged 18-24 voted. This project is all about challenging women to challenge that figure.

What will you be doing?

A one-day training workshop in Parliament, on 5th July, will include a tour of Parliament and a working lunch and dialogue with leading female parliamentarians.

The workshop will include time to develop and design, along with other participants, a workshop about the key issues surrounding women in democracy.

Following the training day, you will be supported by BYC to deliver the workshop to 5 community and youth groups in your region.

The technical bit:

You must be aged 18 to 25 to join the teamYou must have previous experience of facilitation and workshop deliveryYou must be able to attend the training workshop in Parliament on 5th July.You must be prepared to deliver five workshops in your region in September and OctoberYou need to self define as a womanWe pay all travel expenses and coordinate workshop bookings.

Interested in working in politics but not sure where to start? Want to work in Parliament but think it’s not possible for you?

The Social Mobility Foundation has launched the Speaker’s Parliament Placements scheme - backed by the Speaker, and created by Hazel Blears, Eric Ollerenshaw and Jo Swinson.

It’s a cross-party initiative that will open up Parliamentary internships to people who have always wanted to work in politics but haven’t had the opportunity.

The scheme is open to those from disadvantaged backgrounds, and if you are successful you will spend 8 months in Parliament - 6 months working for a Member of Parliament, and 2 months working for the House of Commons.
You will need to have strong communication and ICT skills, be enthusiatic, able to work individually and in a team, hard-working and be able to manage your time and be aware of the role of Parliament.

The successful applicants will earn a living wage so that those who aren’t able to undertake unpaid internships are not frozen out of politics.

The commitment is for 10 months and the expected salary for participants in the scheme is £17,500 pro rata.

The deadline for applications is Noon on Friday 22nd July 2011

The first prize is a Fujifilm FinePix XP10, a compact all action digital camera, and the winning picture will feature on the Votes at 16 brand new leaflet. Two runners up will win an annual subscription to Photography Magazine. All shortlisted entries will be showcased on the Votes at 16 website – who knows, your image may even make it into a newspaper or magazine.

If you are 16-18 years old and want to learn more about business then this opportunity might be for you!

You will gain experience in problem-solving, meet board members, explore sustainability issues with the Ellen Macathur Foundation and have a real input into decisions made on the direct of B&Q.

The application process looks quite comprehensive including writing a 250 word essay and if you are short-listed you have to do a video interview and finalists will have interviews in front of a large group.

The time commitment is various weekends and day board meetings and working on a project together.

Time to Change is looking for young people to join their panel.

Are you aged 16-25, from London or the South East, and passionate about ending mental health stigma and discrimination?You could be a part of the Young People's Advisory Panel.

The Time to Change Young People’s Advisory Panel will contribute to the various activities of Time to Change including the marketing campaign, leadership and education programmes and social media like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. The panel will consist of a core group of up to 30 young people representing a cross section of youth socieites and communities.

You don't have to have any kind of work experience, panel experience, or experience of mental health problems to join. You just need to be happy to share some of your time with us and able to work well in a group of people with different opinions and experiences.

Media Trust and ITV News have launched Breaking Into News 2011. If you're 18-25 years old, this is your chance to win the opportunity to be mentored by experienced broadcast journalists from the ITV News network newsroom and produce your own news report.

To apply you need to ubmit a short description about yourself and your background, what you'd like your report to focus on and why you deserve the opportunity.

Six finalists will be selected to spend four days based at ITV News and with the support of their mentor will produce their own news report.

Out of 6 finalists, one winner will be chosen to have the chance to work alongside the ITV News at Ten team for a day, be presented with an iPad to help with future projects, and the chance to have their final piece considered for inclusion on an ITV News platform.

The age range is 18-25.

The time commitment is a training day on 22nd August 2011, three mentoring sessions between 23rd August 2011 and 7th September 2011 and the final pitch on 8th September 2011.

Deadline is 12pm Monday 8 August

Eat Good Things are looking for Muslim young people in London committed to overcome poverty and injustice, who want to learn new things and share them with their community.

Do you want to work towards a Silver Volunteer Achievement Award (VAA), build your practical skills and confidence, run your own mini- project and influence your own community, meet other young people interested in similar issues, explore and learn more about global poverty and injustice and learn about how food is produced?

The time commitment is: Monthly sessions between July 2011 and Feb 2012 - the first training weekend is 30th - 31st July AND at least 30 hours campaigning between November 2011-January 2012 in your own community.

This opportunity is for Muslims aged 18-25 who live in London.

The Deadline to apply is Friday 8 July 2011.

Applications open for FREE youth leadership course for 18-25 yr olds, happening end of July in London, Manchester and Newcastle.

Young Million Courses are run by Common Purpose who have been running Leadership courses in the UK for 21 years. The course will be an opportunity to learn how to lead when faced with real-life leadership challenges and will be a mix of workshops, debates, visits and groupwork.
Participants will receive training to build their confidence, leadership skills and network.

The course is for 18-25 year olds who can show the desire and potential to become a leader, who are unemployed and looking for work.

The time commitment is 3 full days at the end of July.

EVS - European Voluntary Service - Youth in Action Project

Do you want to volunteer abroad within Europe? European Voluntary Service (EVS) might be for you. EVS is a programme for 18-30 yr olds to volunteer in a non-profit organisation in Europe. Placements might include working with young people, intercultural projects, helping disabled people and much more... You are sure to find something that suits you.

Your living expenses and accommodation are paid for and you will receive pocket money too.

The time commitment is usually between 6 months to a year and your placement will be between 30 - 35 hours a week.

You need to apply to a sending organisation in the UK. There is no deadline to apply to EVS, but you should apply at least 3 months before you plan on going.
