Students in the future are likely to attend multiple institutions and providers (not just colleges), combine jobs and classrooms, and spend a lot longer learning than they do now.

Translated to the European context, the ECTS system provides a firm basis to accomplish learning paths through several institutions of HE in different countries. But there still is a long way to go where institutions give credentials for courses under the ECTS system taken elsewhere.

By selecting students the number of participants is lower, but the selected students will be more involved. Selection can also take place after a few weeks, where only the most involved participants are allowed to continue. Peer-to-peer support is expected to be better because of the involvement. But how will this reduced number of participants influence the business model? Less data for Learning Analytics (although one can wonder if the massive drop out in MOOC's detoriates the significance of the data), less data to sell to head hunters and less podium for excellent students (although really motivated students are expected to be among the participants).

The "Open" part has disappeared from the acronym. Although access is still free, because more teacher effort is needed in these types of courses, I wonder for how long these types of courses will be freely accessible.
