UNISA approves a new strategy for OER. Good example that can inspire other institutions as well

Robert Schuwer's insight:

A fine example of an OER strategy from the University of South Africa. Can be inspiring for instutes planning to formulate their own OER strategy. Makes it very operational by defining five lines of actions.

Why online learning will fail: a MOOC is not a dating site

Why online learning will fail: a MOOC is not a dating site | Opening up education | Scoop.it
Jason Potts says the reason people still go to traditional schools had more to do with being seen than the education they are getting.
Robert Schuwer's insight:

Interesting economic perspective on online learning. Too bad they only focus on MOOCs as an instance of online learning. A better title would therefore have been "Why MOOCs will fail".

Pierre's curator insight, April 27, 5:39 AM

The “Open Lesson” scenario is a modular training resource, which provides the freedom to customize the workshop. Customization means that while the scenario was initially designed with teachers in mind, it can be used by anyone. We made it available, as an Open Educational Resource, on our „Free the Textbook” (Uwolnij podręcznik) webpage.

"The DS4OER course was developed to build capacity in the design and development of open online courses using OER. A key feature of this course is the ability for any educator to host their own course site using the popular open source WordPress content management system assembled from a collection of wiki pages authored openly and collaboratively."

Robert Schuwer's insight:

I couldn't agree more with the last paragrapgh of this blogpost. Start reasoning from e.g. goals institutions have on raising quality of education or being more efficient or offering more personalized ways of education and think about how and whichs forms of open and online education could help to achieve these goals next to other activities.

Why Free Is Not the Future of Digital Content in Education | WIRED | Opening up education | Scoop.it
courosa/Flickr As Chief Content Officer of a learning company, people frequently ask me: “Won’t all of your content eventually be free? After all, when technology enters the market, free is right behind it.” Then they’ll point to something like the music industry, where annual revenues have declined more than $20 billion from their peak over a…
Robert Schuwer's insight:

Interesting analysis. Some added value will not offered for free. The question is if this added value is in the content or the services around the content.

What MIT Is Learning About Online Courses and Working from Home

What MIT Is Learning About Online Courses and Working from Home | Opening up education | Scoop.it
What we’re seeing most recently, and what I’m very excited about, is going from that linear model to a much more non-linear idea. The digital learning experience is becoming really a collection of inter-related learning nuggets, that you might take very different paths through, depending who you are and what your needs are, and how you learn most effectively.  So that’s where I’m seeing some interesting changes happening.
