All eyes on the sharing economy

All eyes on the sharing economy | Open Source Thinking | Scoop.it

WHY pay through the nose for something when you can rent it more cheaply from a stranger online? That is the principle behind a range of online services that enable people to share cars, accommodation, bicycles, household appliances and other items, connecting owners of underused assets with others willing to pay to use them. Dozens of firms such as Airbnb, which lets people rent out their spare rooms, or RelayRides, which allows other people to rent your car, act as matchmakers, allocating resources where they are needed and taking a small cut in return.

Via Alexandre Gaillard, Didier Chauvin, Bernard BRUNET
Anne Landreat's insight:

Via Edouard Siekierski, Eveil & Emergence
Anne Landreat's insight:

Excellente question !

Gallup Releases New Insights on the State of the Global Workplace

Gallup Releases New Insights on the State of the Global Workplace | Open Source Thinking | Scoop.it

Worldwide, only 13% of employees are engaged in their work -- that is, they are emotionally invested and focused on creating value for their organizations every day.

The vast majority of employed people across 142 countries are “not engaged” or “actively
disengaged” at work, meaning they are emotionally disconnected from their workplaces and less likely to be productive. In fact, actively disengaged workers worldwide continue to outnumber engaged workers at a rate of nearly 2-1.

Active disengagement in the workplace represents an immense drain in terms of productivity and profitability, even for highly developed economies. Gallup estimates, for example, that it costs Germany €112 billion to €138 billion per year ($151 billion to $186 billion) and the U.K. between £52 billion and £70 billion ($83 billion to $112 billion) per year.

Anne Landreat's insight:

Talking about revolution!

Jim Clifton, Gallup CEO

"The world economy isn’t growing fast enough, and this is starting to cause some serious problems.
One issue in particular that comes to mind is revolution. Any number of countries suffering from low economic growth and high unemployment could explode in the next few years.

(...) Countries that double the number of engaged employees in every company will be best positioned to
win the lion’s share of the US$140 trillion in new customers."

'The Solution Revolution: How Business, Government and Social Enterprises Are Teaming Up to Solve Society's Toughest Problems'

'The Solution Revolution: How Business, Government and Social Enterprises Are Teaming Up to Solve Society's Toughest Problems' | Open Source Thinking | Scoop.it
Prior to the 19th century, public goods and social goals such as sanitation, health, affordable housing, education, and environmental protection were largely left up to individuals to sort out for themselves. Beginning in the 19th century, though, more and more governments—particularly in the industrialized, democratized world—began taking these responsibilities on themselves. In the latter half of the 20thcentury, the promotion of public goods and social goals expanded as governments in the developed world intensified their efforts at home and began spreading their attention to the developing parts of the planet, and large non-profits and NGOs started cropping up to help with the issues both domestically and abroad.

The Serendipity Economy: How Spontaneity Plus Social Networking Drives Innovation

The Serendipity Economy: How Spontaneity Plus Social Networking Drives Innovation | Open Source Thinking | Scoop.it

For one national hamburger chain internal Yammer talk and listening to Twitter altered a new product. The Serendipity Economy can demonstrate value well beyond improved cycle times or reduced costs. Here's how.

Anne Landreat's insight:

The following six areas outline the key principals of The Serendipity Economy.

The process of creation is distinct from value realization. Value realization is displaced in time from the act that initiated the value. The measure of value requires external validation. Value is not fixed and cannot be forecasted. Looking at a network in the present cannot anticipate either its potential for value or any actual value it may produce. Serendipity may enter at any point in the value web, and it may change the configuration of the value web at any time.

Seven ways to refill your emotional tank

Seven ways to refill your emotional tank | Open Source Thinking | Scoop.it

Running on empty damages you, your organization, and those around you. Eventually you’ll do and say things you’ll regret.

Monthly cycles, duties you hate, unexpected failures, and persistent problems drain your emotional tank. Nagging stress pulls down like lead weight.

Every leader feels the ebb and flow of emotion. Beware! Apart from intervention, leaders end up defeated – running on “E.”

Anne Landreat's insight:

Care for you enables you to care for others.

Seven ways to refill your emotional tank:

1. Create predictability

2. Tell a trusted friend you're running low

3. Leverage rituals

4. Get some rest

5. Do the dirty deeds

6. Watch your diet

7. GIve yourself something to look forward to
