Last Wednesday, we enjoyed a treat for data lovers. Our event, Aaltoes Insights on Open Data, turned out to be an interesting introduction to the local open data community.
With 100 participants and six speakers, we got an understanding of the open data industry, and also a sneak peek into the resources available for developers and data miners. For example, in 2013, HRI (Helsinki Region Infoshare) plans to publish energy-related data, and statistical data about the services in the region. We heard that HSL (Helsinki Region Transport) trusts external developers and alike to create journey planner applications with better user experience and apps for special audiences. In addition, Ilkka from BlindSquare showcased a great example for using open data: his startup collects open map data and Foursquare entries for helping blind people with their everyday lives.
