Vattenfall the energy utility company that runs the grid in Berlin, in collaboration with Fraunhofer FOKUS, have opened up data concerning the energy grid to the public. This is a first in Germany, and part of the company's transparency initiative. In Italy, ENEL, the country's largest energy producer earlier made similar steps, although the data made available in Berlin is much more detailed.
The new portal, Netdaten-Berlin, is listed as being in beta, and currently holds just under 90 data sets. It also features a few applications based on the published data. All data is licensed under Creative Commons BY, requiring just attribution of the source.
