TwitChimp.com is a web application that leverages the Twitter API to provide curated lists of Twitter users. The application is still in a beta testing period but is open to any who would like to try it in this early stage of development.

 

The purpose of TwitChimp.com is to enable any Twitter user to create and curate directories of Twitter users. 

Curated lists are important because they can help reduce the signal to noise ratio in Twitter.

 

Here are some features:

- An ability to easily create and curate feature-filled lists of twitter accounts on any topic you desire.
- Summation of top concepts/words and hashtags in tweets for an entire list, and a hotlinking of those words to Twitter searches.
- Generation of statistics for lists and users in lists.
- An ability to discover lists by category.
- Search tools enabling lists to be found by keywords in the list or by bios of users.
- User profile pages with stats, bios and links.
- An ability to embed lists on any site on the Internet..."

Social media is a source of endless discussion. With the advent of new tools and / or platforms every day, keep up has become a challenge. But some among the many are the undisputed leaders and decide largely on what will be the future. This slide presentation may give us interesting information on the trends and what might we expect in 2012 and beyond. Social networking is the #1 activity online. Even though Google gets the most visitors, Facebook is where most of us are spending our time. And it’s not just about Facebook anymore. We are spending a lot of time on LinkedIn, YouTube, Tumblr and Twitter. While there are some clear major players in the social space, the social media universe continues to expand and 2011 was a banner year for the idea of an "Interest Graph."

 

In 2011, we saw Google launching Google+ and Pinterest grewing at an astounding rate. Facebook launched "Timeline" and "frictionless sharing" with partners like the much anticipated Spotify. Facebook also acquired design companies and the team behind Gowalla, showing the company’s intent to provide a consistent experience across devices and becoming a more prominent player in the mobile space.

"Facebook has announced the launch of Interest Lists, a new feature designed to help users curate the content of Pages and public figures in which they’re interested. The service promises to deliver the top posts from each interest group (list) in the user’s newsfeed.

 

Over the coming weeks, users will see “Add Interests” appear in the left-hand sidebar on their newsfeed. Users can also create lists from “Create List” in the “Interests” page.

 

Interest lists can help you turn Facebook into your own personalized newspaper, with special sections—or feeds—for topics that matter to you. You can find traditional news sections like Business, Sports and Style or get much more personalized.
