Open Source wearable platforms: time for your own gadgets

Open Source wearable platforms: time for your own gadgets | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
When I think about the world that we are now living, I have to (I literally must) think about open source technologies, open source frameworks and products such good that became excellent platforms to build your own distrupting software, or board. We are living the same situation with wearable devices, in such a way that I am inclined to think about all of this stuff and easily identify a cyclic, predictable behavior. Once a technology or a concept starts to become part of the traditional software (and hardware) stack, suddenly clones begin to appear; and there’s a strong chance that the first to appear (as the first clone, or even the original product) is open source. Why? Well, because the well-tested open workflow allows hardware and software producers to rapidly iterate around a platform that has been already built from the ground up, and this enables the team to focus strongly on the product. Wearable technlogies are exactly like that: after we saw [...]

Arduino Based Wireless Notice Board Using GSM Module: Circuit Diagram & Code

Arduino Based Wireless Notice Board Using GSM Module: Circuit Diagram & Code | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
You can see the notice boards being used specially at offices and public places to display important news and notices. To make the notice boards easy to use and more technically advance, I have used this prototype of wireless notice board where we can display the message by simply sending the message through your cell phone. These display systems are very accurate and easy to control and cheaply available and the most important thing is that they can be operated on low Voltage (Up to 12 Voltage).A GSM module is used here for the wireless notice board to send the information or message to display. The main aim of this project is to save time and provide information urgently on display for the customers.  It can be used for multiple purposes like we can share live share market news, we can send trains time table to display, we can show lectures time table and important information for students and for teacher in school and collegelIn this circuit GSM module and a 16x2 LCD display is used for receiving message and display message respectively. When any urgent information is to share with more people this system works perfectly.

FunShield, the Arduino Educational Platform

FunShield, the Arduino Educational Platform | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
Oregon-based Instructables contributor Ken Olsen (MakersBox), has been successfully teaching local kids electronics and programming using the SparkFun Inventors kit. However, using bread-board circuits is hit and miss, and is disappointing for a young maker if it doesn’t work.
Ken decided to design an Arduino platform that would take away the necessity to wire a circuit before getting down to the fun bit of programming.…

SMS Printer

SMS Printer | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
The text message printer was an idea to create a new tangible medium for daily communication.

Replacing the screen of a mobile phone by a thermal printer, text messages will no longer be displayed; but printed! Afterward you can rip off the new message and keep it closer to you, pin it or pass it away.

The project involved three major hardware components; an Arduino UNO, GSM Shield and Thermal Printer. The enclosure on the pictures was a single piece made with MDF wood and laser cuter.

This is still an ongoing project, I'm looking into making a smaller and more easily reproducible case to hold the hardware that you could cut and assemble yourself ! If you have some suggestions or ideas, I would love to hear from you. And If you just like the concept give it a skull ;)
