Pi Zero Peep Hole Camera

Pi Zero Peep Hole Camera | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
What follows is are the details of my peep hole webcam built with a Raspberry Pi Zero. I live in a large NYC apartment building and am regularly curious about sounds I hear coming from the hallway, and wish I had an eye outside from my desk. I have successfully used this webcam peep hole rig to identify The Hallway Whistler, among other mysteries. Using the motion detection, one could configure such a system to automatically take/upload photos and videos of door events. But I'm no Linux expert-- I largely followed Tony D's Cloud Cam tutorial on Adafruit for the software configurations required! For this project you will need:Raspberry Pi Zero with SD card running Jessie version of RaspbianMini WiFi ModulePi Camera or Pi NoIR camera with cablemicro USB to USB A jack adapterHDMI monitor with cable and micro HDMI adapterpowered USB hubkeyboard and mousepower supply (I'm only using a batter

Pixie: An Arduino Based NeoPixel Wristwatch

Pixie: An Arduino Based NeoPixel Wristwatch | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
Ever since the dawn of time, people have begun to dispense time. First was the sundial, later appeared water clock after them was the hourglass. Millennia later was created the first pendulum clock and few centuries later the electronic watch. Today I'll show you how to make Pixie, a wristwatch that combines both analog and digital clock technology with the precision of an atomic clock.PIXIE shows the hours in blue, the minutes in red and the seconds in green, it also has a flashlight mode that is activated, by capacitive touch switch, for 10 seconds. You may ask why, that's because the LEDs heat-up and they might get damaged, but if you want, you can increase the time( at you own risk !)Time format:Hours: 1 LED = 1 hourMinuntes: 1 LED = 5 minutesSeconds: 1 LED = 5 seconds WATCH THE VIDEO !!!!

Make a Voice-Control IR Remote Controller by Arduino

Make a Voice-Control IR Remote Controller by Arduino | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
In our latest project named DIY your ReSpeaker Adapter(Voice Control), we introduced how to control adapter using your voice, but it can only control switch-signal appliances, such as table lamp fan and so on.This time I’ll show you how to use your voice to control some complex household appliances like smart TV and air conditioner using the new thing ReSpeaker, which can allow you to interact with the world using your voice. In this case, we need to use Infrared remote controller to control them. Fortunately, the ReSpeaker has a coprocessor ATmega 32U4 which makes it compatible with Arduino Leonardo, So I use the Arduino side to learn IR Command code as well as send the IR Commands to control the complex appliances.

Portable Copier / Projector using Smartphone (Made in TechShop Detroit)

Portable Copier / Projector using Smartphone (Made in TechShop Detroit) | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
This is a portable copier using your smartphone. Nowadays, a lot of people take pictures of the articles they want to read using their smartphone. Then browse and read the articles electronically. One primary reason is that they could zoom it to those tiny prints. Using these simple laser cut parts, one could create a portable copier. When done, the parts could be disassembled flat and stowed away.Further, multiple jpg files could be combined into one pdf file. Here's the instruction to combine jpgs into one pdf file (in Windows 10 or other version).http://www.howtogeek.com/248462/how-to-combine-ima...This stand could also double as a portable USB projector when hooked directly via USB to your PC (deesktop or laptop). In your PC, select to the DCIM Camera folder. Just take a photo or video of a print or object, the folder will update with the latest photo or video.I added the Corel Draw file s

Giant USB Volume Knob

Giant USB Volume Knob | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
Ever wished for a giant volume knob? I have! So I thought I'd have a go at making one and share it in my first Instructables project.I had 2 goals: Adjust volume (Up/Down/Mute) Switch playback devicesThe Solution: A giant volume knob!To make things easy I went with using an Arduino ATmega32u4 board. Which can be recognised as a USB HID keyboard (using the NicoHood HID Library). SoundSwitch is a great lightweight software for playback device switching. It provides a simple UI for set up and has the perfect functionality - shortcut macro keys to switch device, which can easily be emulated by the Arduino.

DIY Arduino Battery Capacity Tester

DIY Arduino Battery Capacity Tester | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
[ Play Video ]I have salvaged so many old lap-top batteries ( 18650 ) to reuse them in my solar projects. It is very difficult to identify the good cells in battery pack.Earlier in one of my Power Bank Instructable I have told, how to identify good cells by measuring their voltages, but this method is not at all reliable. So I really wanted a way to measure each cell exact capacity instead of their voltages.Few week ago, I have started the project from the basics. This version is really simple one, which is based on Ohms Law.The accuracy of the tester won’t be 100% perfect, but it does give reasonable results that can be used and compared with other battery, so you can easily identify good cells in a old battery pack.During my work I realised, their are lot of things which can be improved. In future I will try to implement those things

Internet Connected Remembrall

Internet Connected Remembrall | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
Any die-hard Harry Potter fan will remember Neville Longbottom's Remembrall. This object is described as a small, glass ball that fills with red smoke when its owner has forgotten something. Unfortunately, the Remembrall doesn't inform the owner about what they have forgotten, rendering the item fairly useless.Because I seem to have a knack for creating useless things, I decided to create a Remembrall that ACTUALLY WORKS!!!!! This Internet Connected Remembrall functions alongside Todoist, which is a web and mobile to-do list application. After gathering the owner's data, the Remembrall turns red if due dates of uncompleted tasks have passed. While I will admit that my Remembrall isn't quite as useless as Neville's, it is sure to leave it's owner in a state of panic as they try to figure out what they have forgotten (or at least I hope it does!).
