Interactive Geodesic LED Dome

Interactive Geodesic LED Dome | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
I constructed a geodesic dome consisting of 120 triangles with an LED and sensor at each triangle. Each LED can be addressed individually and each sensor is tuned specifically for a single triangle. The dome is programmed with an Arduino to light up and produce a MIDI signal depending on which triangle you place your hand. I designed the dome to be a fun display that gets people interested in light, electronics, and sound. Because the dome divides nicely into five parts, I designed the dome to have five separate MIDI outputs that can each have a different sound. This makes the dome a giant musical instrument, ideal for playing music with multiple people simultaneously. In addition to playing music, I also programmed the dome for light shows and playing a rendition of Simon and Pong. The final structure is a little more than a meter in diameter and 70c

DIY Life-Size Phone Controlled BB8 Droid

DIY Life-Size Phone Controlled BB8 Droid | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
Today, I'm going to teach you how to build a working, life-sized, phone-controlled Starwars BB-8 droid! In this tutorial, we are only going to use household materials and a little Arduino circuitry.`My Christmas Gift For Dad: One of my dad's hobby is being a toy collector (Hot Toys, Enterbay & Etc..). He grew up watching movies from the 80's, including Starwars! He is a really huge Starwars fan. When the Sphero BB8 was announced, he wanted it so badly! The Sphero toy cost $150 online, $210 in our country (Philippines), not to mention that they ran out of stock easily! It's not the typical toy that you would buy impulsively. Knowing with my past experience in building robots, I figured I could build a life-sized version of the Sphero BB8 for less than $100. I also saw this as an opportunity to spend some father-and-son time with him. This i

PRINTTABLE the Affordable, Attractive IKEA Lack Table Hack to create a 3D Printer

PRINTTABLE the Affordable, Attractive IKEA Lack Table Hack to create a 3D Printer | Open Source Hardware News | Scoop.it
The BeginningBeing interested in 3D printers since 2011 after purchasing aBFB 3D Touch (Now 3D Systems with the latest model being the Cube Pro costing over £2000) I wanted to build a stable Large build platform 3D Printer for a fraction of the price. Many Enthusiast's entries into the 3D printer market comes from the purchase of the Prusa i3 kit and in keeping with the good work of the Joseph Prusa design I felt it would be great if the design could be simple. One of the many drawbacks I noticed was the overall finished look of the DIY kits; i set upon the task of creating a product that not only was affordable and easy to build but one which had style and form a look in keeping with the futuristic possibilities 3D printing brings.
