BackgroundHello boys and girls!This project comes from the need of quite a lot of fresh herbs. The best way to achieve this by growing herbs in water. However, unlike normal soil grows, the plants can't survive very long if they run out of water.To ensure that the plants always have water even while I'm away I needed some way to monitor my plants. I can check in on my plants using any browser while I'm away and at home I use "steam Wall paper engine" to have all the stats and stream as my desktop wallpaper. (pretty nerdy yes) :DFrom three basil plants (total 15 slots in grow) I harvest about 2 liters of leafs every second week (pesto fiesta!). I recently downloaded and installed both software and firmware updates for the Cura slicer and the Ultimaker 3 Extended printer respectively, so I decided to test the limits of the new features of both, and "Butterfly, Animated" is the result. Please keep in mind I'm neither a lepidopterist nor a botanist, as this is my simple interpretation of a butterfly on a flower. However, it is fun to see the looks on the faces of those who see it and think, for a moment at least, that the butterfly is real.As my goal was to test the limits of the Ultimaker 3 Extended, the file "Wings.3fm" is a dual extrusion file for the wings. I have, however, included the single extrusion "Wings.stl" (the black outline of the wings), and "Wings Infill.stl" (the orange infill for the wings). I built an on-board diagnostics (OBD-II) based display using a 7" TFT LCD from Adafruit, a Teensy 3.6, the Freematics OBD-II I2C Adapter, and some cheep backup sensors I found on Amazon. The display has two pages: one for when my Honda Accord is in drive and one for when it is in reverse.When my car is in drive, the RPM, MPH, engine load percentage, battery voltage, cabin temperature, and engine coolant temperature are displayed (there are several other vehicle statistics available to display if one does not want these). When my car is in reverse, the Arduino IDE compatible Teensy 3.6 reads an animated bitmap image of my car I found online, displays it, and then reads the backup sensors.
