Ronnie Burt: Why today is my last day teaching online … | Open Educational Resources (OER) | Scoop.it

I just submitted final grades for the last time. This means that today marks my last day teaching online.

For the past 3+ years, I’ve been an online adjunct faculty member at a university here in the US – teaching undergraduate courses in critical and creative thinking, along with a fair bit of writing and logical reasoning.

TJ Bliss et al. - An OER COUP: College Teacher and Student Perceptions of Open Educational Resources | JIME

Despite increased development and dissemination, there has been very little empirical research on Open Educational Resources (OER). Teachers and students involved in a large-scale OER initiative at eight community colleges across the United States were given a detailed questionnaire aimed at uncovering their perceptions of the cost, outcomes, uses and perceptions of quality of the OER used in their courses. Teachers and students alike reported significant cost savings and various pedagogical and learning impacts due to the implementation of OER in the classroom. In addition, most students and teachers perceived their OER to be at least equal in quality to traditional textbooks they had used in the past. Implications for further research are discussed.

An Explanation of What Free Teacher Resources Are

Many in the public does not hear the term “Open Educational Resources” and I’m just wondering what they are. Fortunately, there is nothing difficult to understand, because it exactly as she says, is, resources for teachers. In today’s economic situation and the World Wide Web, the information of all kinds are available for anyone with access to a computer. Fast action video games and other high-tech devices offer a different breed of students in the classroom. You are not satisfied, or often even able to sit at a desk and learn, through lectures. Shortage of funds for education with this dilemma is that school districts and teachers to help students learn new ways to fight at work with a shortage of resources to find.

Beaven, Tita: Qualitative methods for researching teachers’ (re)use of OER

Beaven, Tita: Qualitative methods for researching teachers’ (re)use of OER | Open Educational Resources (OER) | Scoop.it

This paper proposes variations around the themes of Peer Observation of Teaching and Professional Conversations as tools to investigate the use and reuse of OER by teachers. It reports on two qualitative studies on the use and reuse of OER by language teachers at the Open University UK. Teachers use LORO (loro.open.ac.uk), an open repository of OER for language teaching, to select their teaching resources.

Developing a pedagogy of mutuality in a capability approach - teachers' experiences of using the open educational resources (OER) of the teacher education in sub-Saharan Africa (TESSA) programme

Developing a pedagogy of mutuality in a capability approach - teachers' experiences of using the open educational resources (OER) of the teacher education in sub-Saharan Africa (TESSA) programme | Open Educational Resources (OER) | Scoop.it

The TESSA (Teacher Education in Sub Saharan Africa) programme aims to improve teacher education at scale by developing open educational resources (OER) that allow sustainable and locally managed pedagogical change in higher education institutions and schools. The article offers a sociocultural theoretical rationale for the pedagogy of mutuality represented in the TESSA OER; and for the research approach to understanding pedagogical change that recognises the dialectical relationship between national policies and institutional structures and practices, and the consequent impact of these on teachers' practice and pupils' learning.
