Open Librarian: Free Webinar > Building Virtual School Programs Using OER Repositories and MOOCs > August 22 2013 | Open Educational Resources (OER) | Scoop.it

Blended Schools is a network of schools that have produced hundreds of online interactive lessons and full courses, and thousands of videos which are accessible for free from their BSNcloud and BSNtube repositories. In addition, to help districts and teachers deliver blended and online learning, Blended Schools has produced a series of MOOCs to help promote and build peer/support groups.

Join us for this webinar, where Mark Gensimore, Vice President for Learning and Instruction for the Blended Schools Network, will share their experiences and show you how your institution can build virtual school programs using OER repositories and MOOCs.

While Blended Schools focuses on K-12 schools, the concepts presented in this webinar regarding OERs and MOOCs will also benefit educators working in higher education and life-long learning.

OERPUB API for Publishing Remixable Open Educational Resources

These slides were given at the 2012 Open Repositories conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. They describe a SWORD extension for depositing new OER, new versions of existing OER, and derived copies of OER. The extension defines Dublin Core metadata for OER and the protocol for distinguishing new content, new versions, and derived copies. We also describe implementations of the service in Connexions, cnx.org and of a client at cnx.oerpub.org.

INNOQUAL: Quality Assurance in the Open An Evaluation of OER Repositories

To develop successful OER repositories is important to consider the nature of the resources, meaning that these need to be able to be searched, shared, reused and that the users need to collaborate to create new content. Educators must be able to adapt, build upon, re-use, and share resources with other teachers, the only preconditions being citation of the original source and creator, that they be used for non-commercial purposes, and shared under the same license if the material is to be redesigned, re-adapted or translated.

Nick Sheppard: What role for repositories after (Gold)Finch?

As the discussions around the rights and wrongs of the Finch report rumble on (like a storm that you think has moved away before frightening the life out of you with a huge thunderclap right over your head), the new RCUK policy will take effect on April Fools Day next year (not sure if the date is significant?) whereby RCUK-funded authors must publish in RCUK-compliant journals i.e. journals that offer a suitable gold option OR a suitable green option. By “a suitable gold option” RCUK means immediate (unembargoed) OA to the “version of record” from its own web site, under a CC-BY license AND permission for immediate deposit of the version of record in an OA repository, also under a CC-BY license.
