Livros digitais,OER e bibliotecas.

And now, how do libraries integrate OERs?

Ann Hulton's curator insight, April 15, 2013 4:30 PM

Libraries could play a strong role in the future of OER, MOOCs etc. Sorting through the maze of open access ejournals that are open access, peer-reviewed and freely available for download is a daunting task. Libraries know how to do this.  Libraries may also be able to help find alternative ways for users of MOOCs to access scholarly research. This is especially important for graduate courses that require original research.

Ann Hulton's comment, April 15, 2013 8:09 PM
Very good question. It may be unrealistic to expect libraries to integrate this information and/or provide this service, in academic libraries, on the other hand it may be an opportunity. I know libraries are already overwhelmed with management of electronic/digital resources.

Nick Sheppard - Libraries, OA research and OER: towards symbiosis?

“Open access and open education may have forked away from simple principles but at heart they both share a founding principle: the opening up of access to what goes on in universities. They are not the same, they are rife with nuance and sometimes even passionate internal disagreements. But the energy behind the activists, developers and reformers is immense and I’d love to see a little more talking across boundaries. Take a little trip over the bridge!”

The Bookaneers: Open Access to Open Educational Resources

"While libraries have been decrying the crisis in scholarly communication for years, and shrinking their book budgets to accommodate the bigger piece of the pie that periodicals are gobbling up, many students, according to webcast presenter and student Nicole Allen, seem to have adopted a different strategy: simply not buying their textbooks."

"We believe that museums can best ensure that our shared cultural heritage is understood in a thoughtful and informed historical context by freeing their images. We hope that museums, libraries and academics can work together to find better solutions and we look forward to the conversation."
