Creative Leadership: Why You Need To Think Outside The Box

Creative Leadership: Why You Need To Think Outside The Box | About leadership | Scoop.it
4 creative leadership measures leaders can use to help them think outside the box in leading their team and organization.

People emerge or are elected as leaders in nearly every aspect of our lives, both personal and professional. While leadership does come in many ways, shapes, and forms, there are some people who go above and beyond when it comes to being a creative, inspiring leader. Thinking outside the box when it comes to your leadership style can be the difference in becoming a successful leader or one that people don’t look up to.

I would venture to say that many of us are somewhat immune to conventional leadership styles. That’s not to say that traditional approaches to leadership or management are totally ineffective. But taking the time to think about your leadership strategy and incorporate some ideas that are a little different can reallyaffect those that you lead in a positive way.

About leadership
I strongly believe in a new type of management style. Not the control-and-command style, form which Managers are derived, but working together based on trust, empowerment and cooperation. Leaders in stead of Managers. All part of my philosophy call 'Qualtism'.

New Blogging Series: “New Leadership in the New Economy: Diversity Matters” | About leadership | Scoop.it

Leadership is no longer defined by years spent in the industry, seniority with the company or the number of gray hairs on our heads. Innovation and social strategies play an increasing role in who wins – and who gets left behind. Often by necessity, leadership is getting younger, stronger and more diverse

I suspect diversity has always mattered. Perhaps we are more aware of that need. What I find intriguing is how often diversity is shut down in the echo chambers we call organizations.

Leiderschap met het hart is hard nodig

Leiderschap met het hart is hard nodig | About leadership | Scoop.it

The 15 crucial ‘soft skills’ the best leaders have in common

The 15 crucial ‘soft skills’ the best leaders have in common | About leadership | Scoop.it

In the 1980s and 1990s I placed hundreds of people in management positions. A few dozen got quickly promoted multiple times. I met up with one of them last week who’s now an EVP with an F250 company. Many of the hiring managers who hired these people had similar track records of success. Coincidently, I was at a business conference with a number of them last month. These two events got me thinking about all of these people – the hundreds and the dozens – and what they had in common.

Three ways to thrive in restrictions | ILM – Insight

Three ways to thrive in restrictions | ILM – Insight | About leadership | Scoop.it

So let’s imagine you’re in a regulated and highly competitive industry. You have some influence over the regulator, but not enough power to persuade them to back down. They announce their intention to pass a law that mandates that in a couple of years’ time you will have to reduce use of your key resource by 35%, while simultaneously maintaining the same level of performance and customer experience that has come to characterise the consumer’s strong relationship with your industry.

What do you do? The constraint is so severe it appears almost impossible for anyone to deliver, certainly without compromising the customer experience. Surely your role as a leader is to fight the regulator, and at least get the implementation delayed. Or do you take a different view, that there is a different kind of leadership responsibility, one in which you accept the inevitability, and pose it as a challenge to your team – even look for the potential benefits in it?

6 Leadership Styles, And When You Should Use Them

6 Leadership Styles, And When You Should Use Them | About leadership | Scoop.it

Taking a team from ordinary to extraordinary means understanding and embracing the difference between management and leadership. According to writer and consultant Peter Drucker, "Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things."

Manager and leader are two completely different roles, although we often use the terms interchangeably. Managers are facilitators of their team members’ success. They ensure that their people have everything they need to be productive and successful; that they’re well trained, happy and have minimal roadblocks in their path; that they’re being groomed for the next level; that they are recognized for great performance and coached through their challenges.
