I strongly believe in a new type of management style. Not the control-and-command style, form which Managers are derived, but working together based on trust, empowerment and cooperation. Leaders in stead of Managers. All part of my philosophy call 'Qualtism'.

New Blogging Series: “New Leadership in the New Economy: Diversity Matters” | About leadership | Scoop.it

Leadership is no longer defined by years spent in the industry, seniority with the company or the number of gray hairs on our heads. Innovation and social strategies play an increasing role in who wins – and who gets left behind. Often by necessity, leadership is getting younger, stronger and more diverse

I suspect diversity has always mattered. Perhaps we are more aware of that need. What I find intriguing is how often diversity is shut down in the echo chambers we call organizations.

How do Leaders Learn to Lead?

How do leaders go through the learning process? What are the formative and informative experiences that influence leaders? The Shift: A Force of Change in the New World of Work

The Shift: A Force of Change in the New World of Work | About leadership | Scoop.it

Whether it’s big data, the cloud, the Internet of things, robots, automation, video, collaboration platforms, supply chains analytics, etc., each interview tends to lead us down the path of how technology is driving transformational change in organizations.

What’s interesting though is that despite the fact that every day we’re exposed to more information talking about our networked world of work, what’s often not talked about in the media and rarely brought up in interviews is the fact that the structures and more importantly the culture of the hierarchy still exist in our organizations today. And the truth is, these two worlds, “the hierarchy” and what I’ll call “the network”, are at a battle with each other and most of us are completely unaware of it.

IBM - The Internet of Things - United States | About leadership | Scoop.it

Over the past century, we have seen the emergence of a kind of global data field. The planet itself—natural systems, human systems, physical objects—have always generated an enormous amount of data, but until recent decades, we weren't able to hear it, to see it, to capture it. Now we can because all of these things have been instrumented with microchips, UPC codes and other technologies. And they're all interconnected, so now we can actually have access to the data. In effect, the planet has grown a central nervous system and is developing intelligence. It's becoming a much smarter planet.

Why is Values Based Leadership so Powerful?Switch & Shift

Why is Values Based Leadership so Powerful?Switch & Shift | About leadership | Scoop.it

The idea that business should be value driven is an increasingly influential one, and rightly so. The days when we could be content to make profit our only value, and when we could delude ourselves that that in itself was not a value judgment, are far behind us, and values are nowbeing used to anchor leadership in all sorts of businesses.

Making the best use of this, like any insight, involves understanding why it works. Fortunately management is a field that draws on many disciplines, and in this case we can learn much from French philosopher Albert Camus.

Leiderschap met het hart is hard nodig

Leiderschap met het hart is hard nodig | About leadership | Scoop.it

Traditional management has a lot of negative connotations, from micromanagement and mismanagement to a lack of empowerment and a lot of bureaucracy. This has led to a number of companies adopting newer structures.
