6 ways you're wasting money on video | iMediaConnection.com @imediatweet | onlinevideo | Scoop.it

Video has changed the online experience. In less than a decade, the web has gone from a very static text and picture driven domain to a media channel that is stealing eyeballs from TV. Online video is ubiquitous for consumers, which means it's very high on every marketer's media plan (or should be).

Yet even with maturation in video content and technology, advertisers are still not getting the most out of the channel. They know they need to be there, but they're not always sure of how to reach the right audience, drive the best results, and get a nice return on their investment. In short, they're making mistakes that are costing them money.

Larry Kless's insight:

Mark Mallet, of interactive agency SEASON/Silver Chalice, outlines key mistakes and epic failures in online video advertising and why marketers are not getting the biggest bang for their buck.

The writing is on the wall – online video is primed to make a major splash with marketers this year. I recently wrote an article for iMedia Connections
Larry Kless's insight:

By Brendan Cournoyer, Published January 10, 201

"I recently wrote an article for iMedia Connections where I broke down my top three online marketing predictions for 2013. Obviously, posts like these are extremely popular toward the end of the year, as seemingly every blogger on the ‘Net takes their shot at becoming the Nostradamus for their particular mediums. Naturally, I wanted to get in on the action.

I had read a couple of marketing-related prediction pieces already, but none had mentioned the one trend that seemed most obvious to me: that online video is ready to explode with B2B marketers in 2013. This omission surprised me since, as predictions go, this one seemed like the safest bet of all..."

Video Commerce Summit an Amazing Event @lonnypaul

Video Commerce Summit an Amazing Event @lonnypaul | onlinevideo | Scoop.it

The Video Commerce Summit in it’s 4th season hosted by Liveclicker in San Francisco was an amazing event. Hearing the advances that some retailers are making with video was inspiring. Zappos reported that they can produce about 500 pieces a day with all 5 production bays in swing. That’s an 8 hour day. Amazing, right? They don’t use scripts as I have always believed provides a more natural human connection in lieu of scripted talking-heads. Some of their ‘goofy’ content is funny as can be as well.

Many of the other sessions at the Summit provided great insights into the way analytics have become more critical and the measurement people look at seems to vary: some are looking simply at AOV, some at the social impact via Facebook, and others at time on site. Time on site, to me, is an important metric. I’ve always said, “the longer someone hangs out in your living room, the more likely they are to stay (and spend $). They become comfortable with you, your vibe and learn to trust you through the amount of time spent with you.”

From the report:

Because the demand for high-impact video advertising exceeds the available inventory, look for continued momentum on the advertising side – particularly as targeting improves."

"While new shows come out every year, it doesn’t look like anything save a fundamental rethinking of the medium can spare this aging technology from a continued decline. Though hard to imagine for the once-dominant medium, it’s the message millions of people are communicating to TV network execs. People looking for entertainment are finding TV to be non-interactive, ad-laden, and missing all the personalized, dynamic features that can be found through digital consumption, such as streaming services and online experiences. What’s questionable is whether they are listening. And just like any large conglomerate that has attempted to keep the status quo in the face of progress, their resistance to new technologies is going to cost them dearly..."
