With the holiday season approaching, many consumers will be searching online stores for great deals, but small merchants can’t always offer the same deals and payment options that large retailers can.
Seven out of ten digital marketers believe they have equal or more digital expertise than their managers and over half think their co-workers lack the skills needed to run successful campaigns.
These statistics come from Responsys’ third annual Big Australia Report, which revealed there is a widening gap in the skills of Australian digital marketers.
Simon O’Day, the Vice President of Responsys Asia-Pacific, believes this gap could eventually lead to older workers being bumped out of their positions by younger, more tech savvy individuals.
It is clear that the next generation of talent is hot on the heels of those in more senior positions. Unless Australian marketers start moving with the times, in a few more years we may see the younger, savvier digital marketers landing the top strategic jobs in favour of their counterparts with more years on the clock.
If I were an owner of, say, a coffee shop or a restaurant, no matter how much I loathe the sometimes unforgivable barrage of photos of food half-eaten or otherwise, I’d use it for a ninja trick and more.
What do you see in a restaurant? A tea house? A Coffee shop? No one goes to a restaurant just to eat, a friend once said. And it’s true: one goes to these places for the ease of not having to cook one’s food or make one’s own coffee; to experience the ambiance of the place; to feel like a king at lunch break. Logically, there’s a lot to photograph beyond the scrumptious headless shrimp on one’s plate.
Why Instagram? Well, why not? The camera phone is among the easiest, most accessible gadget to use for chronicling daily adventures. Photos can create that emotional connection you’d like to see formed between your brand and your customers. Add to that the memory-lane feel that Instagram filters give you – makes you remember the pictures in your mom’s photo box. Awwwww.
The perks and prizes that you give to your customers for participating in your Instagram activities benefit you financially and emotionally. Social Commerce has hit some setbacks as of late. Billed as the next logical step of e-commerce, the concept hasn’t taken off the way that many people have expected. A recent survey says nearly 63% prefer virtual retailers to brick-and-mortar stores. For savvy online shoppers, free shipping is frequently a deciding factor to buy or abandon the find.

What time do your readers normally browse through their inboxes? When are they most likely to open and click? Do they read messages that are more than 12 hours old? GetResponse set out to answer these questions in our latest research on open-and-click times and came up with some interesting conclusions. This involved analyzing 21 million messages sent from U.S. email accounts during the first quarter of 2012 to determine the top result for the following metrics: - Open time
- Click-through time
- Recipients’ top engagement time
The really important finding was that all email messages, no matter what time they were scheduled for, get most opens within the first hour from delivery (up to 23%). - This means that if a message is sent too early (or too late) to top engagement times, it will miss the chance of reaching its maximum results. It simply cannot wait in the inbox for too long.
- The research confirmed that the subscribers are most engaged with their inbox content during the working hours: Scanning emails is the first thing they do when they start work — 8-10 a.m. Then, their inbox activity goes down, with the lowest results around lunch, and goes up again shortly before leaving work — 3-4 p.m.
- An interesting thing is that the average click rate also increases around 8 p.m., which might mean that this is the time when recipients read through their messages with more attention.
As the research shows: to achieve best possible results, you should schedule delivery of your email taking into consideration the following: - Emails reach the best results within 1 hour after landing in the inbox.
- If your recipients are occupied with other activities, they won’t be able to engage while it’s still fresh, and your message will be crowded out by more recent messages
- To optimize the engagement rates for your message, you should schedule it to hit the inbox no later than 1 hour before the top open times, when its chances of getting noticed are the highest.
- If your emailing's go to worldwide lists, make sure you use solutions that optimize delivery times in different time zones

Google updated its Google+ mobile apps for iOS and Android devices this week, adding support for Google+ pages. So now business owners that promote their brands using Google+ can do so from their mobile devices.
The update allows page owners to manage their page, create new posts, and comment on other posts from their mobile devices, all features that were previously only available for Google+ personal accounts. Of course, Facebook has an app that allows page owners to manage their accounts, and Twitter can be used from nearly any mobile device. So this update from Google+ was definitely needed if the company wants its platform to be seen as a viable social media option for many businesses.
Aside from the ability to use Google+ pages, the new updates include a few additional features. For Android, the update features a new “find people” option, which lets users search for other people and topics on the site. Social Labs today released its findings regarding how online retailers implement Facebook's Login Button. The company examined how the top 500 online retailers integrated the plugin as an alternative option for their account creation, site registration, and site login processes. The 14-page study titled “Log In With Facebook and the 2012 Internet Retailer Top 500″ (PDF, via All Facebook) shows the numbers aren’t pretty: only 30 out of the top 500 sites, or 6 percent, integrated Facebook with the core of their e-commerce site for the purpose of user account creation. As a result, Sociable Labs says the adoption of the plugin by the Internet Retailer Top 500 is still in its beginning stages and believes this shows “an untapped opportunity area.” The research firm lists the following benefits of such integration: simplified account creation, elimination of required site-specific passwords, increased onsite personalization, richer CRM data, and increased referral traffic from Facebook...

A properly implemented email marketing campaign works much like a well-oiled machine. It’s effective, only requires a moderate amount of maintenance and supervision and produces results with little actual effort from its operators beyond its initial setup. And what’s more, it’s not this long, drawn out, manual experience each and every time you want to send out an individual mailing. You just set things up and it just hits the ground running, pretty much on its own.
