Where the Values Meet the Tarmac

Where the Values Meet the Tarmac | Online Trust, Reputation and Values | Scoop.it
Bean told me something that I took to heart: " If your top priority (value) is in the top 10 of the organization you are working in, stay with it. If not, time for a change."

Dennis T OConnor's insight:

This story has been rattling around in my memory closet for years. My work on values congruency with Annette Schleming help bring this out. I'm proud to share this with you all.

Annette Schmeling's curator insight, January 29, 2013 7:46 PM

Powerful testimony about value congruency and a journey well traveled. Dennis hits it right we he states "If you find congruency, stay put. If not; change the culture of your workplace, or change your work place." Sage advice.

Knowing your core values, and having the skill to assess the practiced values in your work environment, will result in a more significant and possitive difference in work attitudens and performance.

Thanks for your openness and honesty Dennis!

GOOGLE THYSELF: How Students Can Save Their Online Reputations.. | Online Trust, Reputation and Values | Scoop.it
BUFFALO, N.Y.

Samantha Grossman wasn't always thrilled with the impression that emerged when people Googled her name.

"It wasn't anything too horrible," she said. "I just have a common name. There would be pictures, college partying pictures, that weren't of me, things I wouldn't want associated with me."

So before she graduated from Syracuse University last spring, the school provided her with a tool that allowed her to put her best Web foot forward. Now when people Google her, they go straight to a positive image – professional photo, cum laude degree and credentials – that she credits with helping her land a digital advertising job in New York.

Dennis T OConnor's insight:

It's great to see some schools are stepping up to help their graduates establish a strong reputation trail.

This is a trail that often leads to a job!

Connect and Grow... Fusion of Social Networking with Personal Development

Connect and Grow... Fusion of Social Networking with Personal Development | Online Trust, Reputation and Values | Scoop.it
Now the future of e-learning, training, and development points towards social learning and knowledge networking. Extending development beyond the traditional classroom, workplace, and training media, towards self-directed learning, collaborative production and evaluation of knowledge, brainstorming, problem solving, and ultimately personal responsibility (critical for both adults and younger learners). Thus people who tend to sink in the background or be marginalized in formal settings can now interact with more confidence.
Dennis T OConnor's insight:

Social networking is the way to establish your presence beyond the home town circle of freinds you grew up with.

Furthermore, Len was relentless in helping me learn how to utilize my leads club membership to develop business relationships in an unfamiliar market. I have always appreciated his help.

"As of this writing, Jezebel has yet to amend its post to say that Liss fingered the wrong Andrew Meyer. But even if Liss had had the right guy, would that have warranted the kind of mob justice people on the internet are obviously champing at the bit to mete out? Other than fulfilling a desire for revenge, what purpose does siccing bloggers and Twitter users on low-level meanies serve?"
Dennis T OConnor's insight:

The lynch mob mentality discussed here is a scary example of what can happen with mis-attributed online gossip.  In the village days, where every one knew each other gossip had an element of reality check. Not now.

Think twice before forwarding bad news; especially if its about something that you don't know about first hand.
