Epic Facebook meltdown, PR fail or publicity ploy?

Epic Facebook meltdown, PR fail or publicity ploy? | Online Trust, Reputation and Values | Scoop.it
Owner Samy threatens diner after 90 min wait for pizza You're about to witness one of the biggest social media meltdowns and PR fails in the short recorded history of the Internet. The big question is was it a staged publicity stunt?

Five PR things Amy and Samy should do

If this wasn’t reality TV, here’s how you’d start on the road to rehabilitating their ravaged reputation:

  1. Make an unreserved apology on their Facebook page and any other social media.
  2. Run several local newspaper ads apologizing for their behavior.
  3. Don’t engage with trolls and spammers on their Facebook page. Shut down comments temporarily and explain your hope that you can “get back to business.”
  4. Go quiet in terms of social media for several weeks. Monitor comments.
  5. Deliver exceptional quality of food and service in order to re-earn the trust of past and future customers.

Tioki is a combination social network for educators and job search service. It will appeal to younger teachers who are learning their way into the profession.  The profile elements help new teachers highlight their skills.

While I concentrate on E-Learning, I wanted to curate this interesting social network based job search site.  Young teachers are a precious commodity. Those saavy enough to use this service well have already distinguished themselves as above average.

For those involved in virtual education at the K-12 level, it may be well worth your time to network here.

If the next economy is going to facilitate healthy flows of resources and information which support people, society and the planet, we have a lot of changes to make. Because that's certainly not what the current economy does. We are building the means (technology platforms and protocols) for this kind of healthy economy to exist.

Just as people can create value, we believe communities of people should be able to decide what they value and how that will be measured and acknowledged. This means they have to be able to create their own currencies.

In order to understand our crazy and ambitious project, you need to know a few things about we're relating to currencies and technology.

Awesome Digital Citizenship Graphic for your Classroom | Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | Online Trust, Reputation and Values | Scoop.it

Digital citizenship is " the norms of appropriate, responsible behavior with regard to technology use."

It is the combination of technical and social skills that enable a person to be successful and safe in the information age. Just like literacy and numeracy initiatives which provide people with the skills to ' participate in the work force, digital literacy has become an essential skill to be a confident, connected, and actively involved life long learner.'

I personally recommend that teachers and educators should, throughout the entire school year, devote special sessions to just teaching students about Digital Citizenship. Students need to learn how to act appropriately while using the net and there are several activities and resources to help you do that with them. Check out this section  to access some of these resources. I am also sharing with you today a great graphic on the components of digital citizenship.Try out printing it and using it with your students in the classroom. If you are planning to create a visual CV for yourself soon, do not waste your time trying out the many cool alternative tools that are available out there to create one, like Easel.ly, LinkedIN Resume Builder, Vizify, Infogr.am and several others.

In my view, even if you use a fancy visualization tool, what makes the most difference is having a unique visual "idea" to support the presentation of your credentials.

This is why I suggest that, if you have the fancy and skills to create your own visual CV, there is no better resource for inspiration that I know of, than this huge Pinterest collection by Randy Krum.

Give and Take: A Revolutionary Approach To Success, a new book by Adam Grant (the youngest tenured professor at Wharton), is about why some people rise to the top of the success ladder while others sink to the bottom.

Give and Take is about why some people rise to the top of the success ladder while others sink to the bottom. For generations, we’ve assumed that excellence is achieved by people who are hardworking, talented, and lucky. This three-legged stool explains much of success, but it’s missing a fourth leg. In a rapidly changing world, our styles of interacting with other people are increasingly important drivers of success. Combining a decade of cutting-edge research with fascinating stories, the book opens up a fresh way of thinking about success and illuminates new choices people can make to achieve it.

If you are an author, blogger or journalist and you would like to create an online professional portoflio of your best work, here is a free service that provides a simple, but excellent personal branding and news portofolio service: Pressfolios.

You can create different sections of your content clips as to organize them according to different topics / industries / issues / years / publishers.

Last but not least Pressfolios automatically helps you create a profile page for yourself to support your content showcase, in which you can list your "professional focus", skills, social networks you are active on, and some kind of text introduction alongside an image of yours and a theme-image that you can also choose for yourself.

How people monitor their identity and search for others online | Pew Internet & American Life Project

Reputation management has now become a defining feature of online life for many internet users, especially the young. While some internet users are careful to project themselves online in a way that suits specific audiences, other internet users embrace an open approach to sharing information about themselves and do not take steps to restrict what they share. Search engines and social media sites play a central role in building one’s reputation online, and many users are learning and refining their approach as they go--changing privacy settings on profiles, customizing who can see certain updates and deleting unwanted information about them that appears online.

Via Anne Whaits, Dr. Laura Sheneman
Anne Whaits's curator insight, January 31, 4:19 PM

"Four units comprise the curriculum resources. Each unit consists of standalone yet complementary lesson plans that play off a creative rights scenario presented through a case study.

Each unit has 4-6 of these project-oriented activities, one of which serves as the culminating lesson for the unit. Guiding questions help set the expectation for what students learn, and pre/post assessments establish baseline knowledge to gauge student learning. Modification and Extension suggestions recommend ways to abridge or expand the activities within the unit, and provide tips for engaging parents and peers outside of the classroom.

You’ll have to register to download the actual units (PDF format)."

Your reputation is now threatened by immortality. How do you want to be remembered?

Dennis T OConnor's comment, May 2, 2:01 PM
What do you think of the speaker's recommendation that we don't look to deeply into the past of those we love? Is the Electronic Tatoo a curse we all have to live with beyond forever? Or is awareness of our permanent online footprint enough to flip the technology and allow us to build an electronic reputation to be proud of?
Homeschool FL's curator insight, May 3, 9:59 AM

Our children are growing up in a digital world that is completely foreign to how we grew up. We didn't have the Internet as a ubiquitous prescence in our lives. To make things worse, the landscape keeps changing on us, the parents, and the children. It is now, more than ever, crucial to teach our children how to be more than "street smart."

It used to be that having street smarts was helpful, because that way you could protect yourself from being taken advantage of. It carries an element of shrewdness, for one's own protection this is a good thing. Nowadays we need to apply that online.

This video is short, but it makes a powerful illustration. Juan Enriquez likens our online activity to an electronic tattoo, virtually permanent. Something we adults need to learn also, but moreover our children, as they grow up in the Internet jungle. And it is a jungle.

5 Big Reasons New Grads are Failing the Job Search

5 Big Reasons New Grads are Failing the Job Search | Online Trust, Reputation and Values | Scoop.it
A Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a Real Job After Graduation.

Although a poor resume is one reason new grads are failing in the job search, it’s a symptom of bigger issues. At last count, something like 53% of new grads under the age of 25 are unemployed or underemployed. The word we’re using for this now is “malemployment.”

What’s discouraging is that many give up the job search far too soon, and settle for one to two other options:

  1. Taking a part time, low wage job to create some level of sustainable income, or,

  2. Consider taking on more debt by going back to grad school.

My response is to say not yet, to both. Because for many grads, they have not put in the work to overcome the systemic issues which created their conundrum in the first place.

Creating a marketing plan to guide your job search is just one part of the excellent advice contained in this article.
