Have you ever wanted to put together a podcast of audio files that you’ve discovered on the web? It isn’t as easy as it should be. A podcast is an RSS file and making an RSS feed by hand is a pain.

 

Huffduffer takes the pain out of podcasting found sounds.

 

The word Huffduffer derives from a technology called Huff-Duff that was used to triangulate the position of radio transmissions circa WW II. Huffduffing on the web is a way of pin-pointing interesting MP3 files.

Here’s how it works:

-You find an MP3 that you’d like to share with the world.

-Use the handy Huffduff it bookmarklet or huffduff it directly on the site.

-That file is now added to your podcast.

Gemaakt door Eran May-raz en Daniel Lazo als afstudeer project aan de Bezaleal Academy of Arts.

 

Sight, a short, science fiction film by Israeli student filmmakers is a brilliant take on the emerging world of augmented reality (AR)—the technology behind Google's goofy glasses.

The video comes out at an interesting time for AR, just after Google’s “Glass Explorers” have received their welcome letters and amid suggestions through patent activity that Apple may be at work on its own “iGlasses.” What May-raz and Lazo have done is to take consumer AR to its logical, and terrifying, conclusion based on what is happening in the present moment.

Their ideas are not wholly original, but they are beautifully executed. A post about the film on VentureBeat points out the similarity of many aspects of the scenario to a particular Star Trek: Original Series episode. And in terms of Google Glass, Lazo wrote in an email to VentureBeat, “The Google Glass video just came out about a day or two after we started work on Sight. It was pretty cool; it kind of gave us an affirmation that we’re on the right path.”

Artistic 7 min documentary about the wonders of Projection Mapping - Augmented Reality's Eye Candy

Augumented Reality’, is a short film documentary by Belgium filmmaker Dane Luttik that explores projection mapping; what it is, how its used and how far its come. So what is it? Well as any video or installation artist knows the underlying concept is simple; software to direct projections onto three-dimensional objects, shapes, anything but a flat screen.
Arguably the most proficient artists using this software today are Visual Label AntiVJ – who I’ve posted about before – a group that use mapping to explore art and live music in an incredible way. And it is to AntiVJ that Luttik turns to in his film – a crash course in AntiVJs work including; Eyjafjallajökull, their installation at Nuits Sonores and 3Destruct. Artists Joanie Lemercier, Konstructiv and Ilan Katin provide additional insights about this still evolving technology

Als je websites bezoekt waar wordt geadverteerd, worden ook de advertentie netwerken ingelicht over dat bezoek. Dat kan helpen bij het aanbieden van relevante advertenties. Toch is er veel discussie over deze tracking cookies en de privacy. Om welke informatie gaat het? Is het erg? Wat kun je eraan doen?

 

Op 8 mei keurde de Eerste Kamer de nieuwe Telecommunicatiewet goed. Deze regelt nu ook de netneutraliteit, zodat providers bepaalde apps of programma’s niet mogen blokkeren. KPN wilde dat eerder bijvoorbeeld om Whatsapp te weren, want de sms inkomsten zijn dramatisch teruggelopen.

De wet wordt ook wel de ‘cookiewet’ genoemd, want daar gaat het eigenlijk om voor online adverteerders en internet marketing bureaus. Cookies zijn kleine tekstbestanden die een website in je browser achterlaat. Zo kunnen voorkeuren, onthoud mijn wachtwoord, je winkelwagentje of taalinstellingen worden onthouden voor een volgend bezoek. Op zich handig en deze worden ook niet verboden.

 

Anders is dat bij de tracking cookies die advertentienetwerken achterlaten. Gebruikers zouden volgens de nieuwe wet per 1 juli toestemming moeten geven (‘opt in’) om zo’n cookie te laten plaatsen. Hoe moet het bijvoorbeeld met Google Analytics, dat op veel websites is geïnstalleerd. Het is voor de bezoeker geen essentiële of nuttige cookie.

 

Wel is er een website waar je je kunt afmelden voor verschillende tracking netwerken: YourOnlineChoices. Maar afmelden is ‘opt-out’, dus niet echt wat de wet verlangt.

 

Hoe dat praktisch zou moeten is nog niet bekend.

Vandaar dat er uitstel aan website eigenaren en netwerken is verleend tot het einde van het jaar.

I selected this piece because it's something many people are struggling with on a daily basis. This article was written by Peter Bregman for Harvard Business Review.

 

He gives very simple suggestions, they seem so obvious but if you're having trouble with distraction, maybe you should try this.

Never before has it been so important to be grounded and intentional and to know what to pay attention to and what to ignore.

 

Excerpt:

 

The speed with which information hurtles towards us is unavoidable (and it's getting worse). Trying to catch it all is counterproductive.

 

The faster the waves come, the more deliberately we need to navigate. Otherwise we'll get tossed around like so many particles of sand, scattered to oblivion.

Now is a good time me to pause, prioritize and focus  

 

Make two lists and read them everyday

 

**Ask yourself what's the plan for today?

 

**Where do I need to spend my time?

 

**How will it further my focus?

**Be very aware of what you're doing and what your priorities are for the day and long term

 

**Make conscious choices to stick to the list that has your priorities and follow through

Subtitle, Caption and Translate Any Video with Amara / Universal Subtitles

Robin Good: Amara / Universal Subtitles is a free web-based service that allows anyone to easily sub-title and add captions to any video. 

 

As long as you have a URL of a published video, Amara makes it very easy to caption it. The clip may be on a video sharing site or embedded in custom video player and Amara can still get to it.

 

Amara is made up of three main parts:

 

a) A subtitle creation and viewing tool (aka the widget)


b) A collaborative subtitling website

 

c) An open protocol for subtitle search/delivery

 

All tools inside Amara are free and open-source.
