Yes - care and consideration is needed for all types of scenario's that we provide in SLE.  See - article in  Medical Education - Simulation death can be an appropriate training tool for medical students.  Rogers G., Jones de Rooy N., Bowe P.  (2011).

I agree, if it happens in real life it should happen in the simulated experience.

Dominique Godefroy's curator insight, May 3, 2013 4:01 AM

Young, low-income, minority women respond favorably to a “virtual patient advocate” that talks to them in plain English in a conversational, non-confrontational manner about birth control and other “preconception planning” issues, preliminary testing of the technology shows. Some even prefer the avatar to an actual physician, according to an articlein the American Journal of Health Promotion.

Marina Cousins's curator insight, April 10, 9:50 PM

This is a good example of applying the SAMR model to teaching within a hospital ward environment.  Often you do not have access to expensive mankins to provide simulation of a real life scenario.  However, by using this technology you can transform the learning and assessment of a particular clinical skill from learning from a type piece of paper and repeating those actions on that paper in practice to actually using this technology to provide collaborative learning and criticial thinking skills to assess a clinicians knowledge.  The clinican has the ability to practice their clinical skills.

Nigel Wynne's insight:

OK, So this isn't health related but this is a very interesting project that has applications to any vocational training arena. This project addresses trhe pedagogic considerations required when designing and supporting a group of school pupils. Requires the user to condier how best to engage with "conflicting pupils". The more mistakes the more conflicting pupils:) Congratulations to the project partners for rising to the challenge of a very difficult simulation topic.
