Braintree's Bill Ready: Bitcoin Will Impact Mainstream Payments Joon Ian Wong (@joonian) | Published on November 7, 2014 at 22:20 GMT
Braintree's chief executive Bill Ready has followed bitcoin for years, but for most of that time, he saw it as an interesting computer science experiment.
Today, however, Ready is convinced that bitcoin has a future in a payments space that's increasingly showing its age. Ready's bullishness on bitcoin doesn't stop there. He wants Braintree, which owns the buzz-generating mobile wallet Venmo, to help take bitcoin mainstream.
"We can start to ... take [bitcoin] to the mainstream because we know what it takes to be compliant with regulatory bodies. From a computer science breakthrough to an alternative form of payment that hopefully sees much greater adoption than it has already."

The inaugural episode of CNN's Morgan Spurlock Inside Man explores the ins and outs of the world of bitcoin.
Anne Ljostad's insight:
“This whole thing is so bananas."
So says American documentary maker Morgan Spurlock in an early scene from an upcoming episode of CNN's Inside Man that focuses on bitcoin. During the show, Spurlock buys bitcoin at the New York City Bitcoin Center, helps set up new machines at a bitcoin mine and visits now-defunct Silk Road 2.0 black marketplace to purchase a fake Rolex.
The episode debuts on 19th February at 21:00 ET/PT, and like his controversial, Oscar-nominated 2004 documentary Super Size Me, the show centers on the concept of Spurlock surviving on one particular thing – in this case, he lives on bitcoin instead of the dollar.
Not Happy With Your YouTube URL? Now You Can Change It
When you first joined YouTube it’s possible you picked a URL that isn’t quite in line with what you have built your brand into today.
Previously you could have started a new account with a URL that’s more befitting of your brand, but who wants to go through the effort of starting a whole new channel, especially after you have acquired a number of subscribers.
Now there’s an easier way to get a new custom URL without having to undo all the work you have done to build your following on YouTube. The company states that starting this week it will be sending out emails and notifications to qualifying users that will give them the opportunity to claim a new URL.
Google unveiled a carrot that likely will encourage Web developers to focus on making sites sing on smaller screens: a mobile-friendly label. The company is considering a stick.
Anne Ljostad's insight:
Google alerts mobile users of Mobile Friendly sites in search results
This move by Google has many SEO experts chomping at the bit to get a ranking advantage for their clients over the competition. But I I personally think the mobile friendly boost is only going to be used to split hairs. Content that gets the mobile friendly badge of approval in most cases would probably be on page one anyway and the notice is just a courtesy to mobile users. Google isn't going to take crap content and put it on page one just because it is mobile friendly.
