For the Online News Association, the Future Is Now.

"It's important to note that we banned the phrase 'future of' anything this year," she says. That, she adds, is because journalism has already entered that future.

A Tip Sheet for Winning Top Billing on Google News

It's no secret that a link on Google News will send a fire hose of traffic to your website or blog. But what determines the search giant's system for ranking the importance of, say, a New York Times article over a Huffington Post article? This is the question that keeps practitioners of the dark arts of S.E.O. up at night. As such, SEO specialists Perfect Market, Local SEO Guide and Newsknife released a new survey on how Google News ranks articles at the Online News Association conference in Boston today.

Why I’m Going To ONA11

"Later this week is the annual Online News Association Conference in Boston, which I will be attending. I’m very excited about attending my second ONA Conference, and I had an amazing experience last year.

I return this year as a volunteer to help live stream the sessions (which you can follow along on the conference website). The programming at ONA is exceptional, and I got tons of inspiration out of the sessions that I attended last year (in particular, a session about news apps).

But that’s not why I’m returning to ONA.

In online journalism, there is no better way to network than by attending the ONA conference."

Finalists announced for the 2011 Online Journalism Awards - Online News Association

A group of 34 industry-leading journalists and new media professionals teamed up to review entrants and select finalists. Twelve of those judges, representing a diverse cross-section of the industry, met at the university’s Coral Gables, Fla., campus and eight more conferred internationally to determine winners from independent, community, nonprofit, major media and international news sites.

The results will be announced at the 2011 ONA Conference and Online Journalism Awards Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston.
