Strategies for transformation 2: from synchronous to asynchronous | Onlignment | Online Networked Learning | Scoop.it

JULY 19, 2012 BY CLIVE SHEPHERD

In this series of posts, I explore six ways in which learning professionals can realise a transformation in the way that learning and development occurs in their organisations. It builds on the series I posted earlier in the year, in which I set out the six major elements in a vision for change, i.e. learning that is aligned, economical, scalable, flexible, engaging and powerful.

EC-TEL 2013 : 8th European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning

EC-TEL 2013 : 8th European Conference on Technology Enhanced Learning...

While Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) has created enormous changes in schools, universities and at the workplaces, innovations have tended to be unsustainable. Too often, initiatives need a high degree of effort to be sustained, and are consequently endangered when funding stops. Many initiatives now focus on scaling up bottom-up initiatives to create higher and more sustainable impact. These initiatives require an interdisciplinary perspective in TEL research and development, drawing on core disciplines of Computer Science, Education, Psychology, Cognitive Science, and Social Science. This blend of research traditions has always been a strength of EC-TEL and its vibrant community.

We invite contributions for demonstrations, workshops and project meetings, as well as original research papers. A doctoral consortium will also be organized concurrently with the workshops. See the website for more details: http://ec-tel.eu/

Reflections on the First Year of a New-Model University - Online Learning - The Chronicle of Higher Education

Reflections on the First Year of a New-Model University - Online Learning - The Chronicle of Higher Education | Online Networked Learning | Scoop.it
A large part of the challenge for Western Governors University-Texas has been explaining what it is—and what it isn't.

Western Governors University Texas, where I am chancellor, is not an easy institution to describe to your mother—or even your hip sister. It just doesn't fit the profile of most traditional universities, even the newer for-profit and online ones. It brings the work of a national, online, nonprofit university into a state, and it embraces a competency-based education model that is rarely found on an institutionwide level.

Even for seasoned educators, WGU Texas feels different. And in a year that has seen flat or declining enrollments at many traditional colleges, reports critical of for-profit institutions, and continuing debate over the perils and promise of online learning, our story, and our growth, has been unique. As we hit our one-year anniversary, it's worth taking a few moments to reflect on the ups, downs, challenges, and champions of this newest state model. I'd offer three key reflections on lessons we've learned:
