Could this be a fillip for musicians......broadcast performances live to the web via social media? With an option of charging fans to watch?

Tagmotion's comment, January 26, 2013 11:56 PM
Could this could be a new way for some musicians/performers to make money....especially those with a fan base on social media, willing to pay to watch in realtime?

Vance Stevens's curator insight, January 5, 2013 7:59 AM

This rescoop from Digital Delights is a link to a small amount of text but (in true multiliteracies fashion) to 15 min. of screencast video about a mixably open online course created in Canvas, whose learning objects are meant to be open and remixable. The video is actually about how an open course on Psychology was set up in such a way that the course structure could be more or less interchangeably applied to other courses.

In an obvious sense this video relates to MOOC because it is yet another take on the concept, which has become a kind of clonable football that players are now running in different directions all over the field with, each with his/her own clone of the football.

In other senses it has no more to do with cMOOC than the clone being carried down the sidelines by the player on the far side of the field. It's open, it's online, and it's a course, it describes a particular way of setting up an LMS, but it would be devilishly difficult to remix the suggested structure to a course on, say, multiliteracies. And finally, if you did that, it would produce an xMOOC with a syllabus to be mastered, and not a cMOOC, where participants are expected to in effect evolve their own internal syllabus depending on their individual needs, desired outcomes, and serendipitous networking with one another.

It's important when discussing MOOCs to keep focused on the kind of MOOC you're talking about (and you could be thinking of a different kind of MOOC than I am). I'm thinking cMOOC as described at the end of the previous paragraph, but many people are thinking xMOOC when they consider the term, and others are slipping in their own meanings for M as in 'mixably' or in my estimate that MultiMOOC is not likely to be 'massive' it therefore must be something else such as 'minuscule'. Perhaps a good replacement for the M would be 'multifaceted' :-)
