Why Sales on Social Media Will Be Huge By 2015 [INFOGRAPHIC]

Why Sales on Social Media Will Be Huge By 2015 [INFOGRAPHIC] | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

Shopping on social media may not be big right now, but by 2015, it's expected to explode...

A new infographic by has found that “social commerce sales are expected to bring in $30 billion each year by 2015, with half of web sales to occur through social media,” writes Samantha Murphy of Mashable. Currently, one in three small businesses use Facebook, while there are over 42 million fan pages on Facebook. Seventeen percent of those sell products on the pages.

Facebook fans are 79 percent more likely than a non-fan to purchase a product, and 74 percent of fans are more likely to recommend a company or product. The social media site also drives 26 percent of referral traffic to company websites. Right now ”20 percent of shoppers prefer to purchase products via Facebook than the brand’s website”— and that number is expected to climb.

Mobile, Human Curation: The Trends Behind Decline Of Google News?

Mobile, Human Curation: The Trends Behind Decline Of Google News? | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

Interesting take by Hamish McKenzie on Pandodaily. In his opinion, the reason Media Publishers feel bold enough to attack Google and feel entitled to have a revenue share is that Google News is a declining service.

He lists Mobile Agregation but also Human Curation as two trends that make its algorithmic filtering less relevant.

So interestingly, while many have attributed to Google's own algorithm changes the demise of  services like Wikio, it seems that now Google's own algorithmic approach is challenged by social curation.

Your Guide to Social Signals for SEO

Your Guide to Social Signals for SEO | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

Social Signals are paving the way for the future of search, but just how much influence might they have on the SERPs?

“…are either of the major search engines actually using those social signals to rank regular search results?”

We’re still trying to figure out just how strong of a role social signals play in organic SEO rankings: multiple studies have been conducted to determine the exact correlation of social signals and SEO rankings, with varying results.

However, it’s clear that the importance of social signals is increasing with time, and that begs several questions:

1) How and why do social signals improve rankings?

2) What’s the future of social signals with regard to SEO?

3) What steps should be taken right now to improve my website’s social signals?

Twitter expands expanded tweets — so you never have to leave

Twitter expands expanded tweets — so you never have to leave | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

I think Twitter is doing it smart here as by default the user sees as usual the 140 characters long tweet (this they should not change!) but can extend by clicking 'View Media' and keep the user on site. http://www.thinglink.com/ is the latest Twitter Card usage with interactive images.

"Imagine you could get everything you needed from the online world — news, photos, videos, music, movie trailers, product information — without ever having to leave Twitter. That would make Twitter chairman Jack Dorsey very, very happy, and today, we’re all one step closer to that Twitter-centric vision."

The Marketer's Guide To SlideShare

The Marketer's Guide To SlideShare | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it
I want to show you a big opportunity that leads to other big opportunities. This “opportunity” gets 60 millions visitors per month and has an Alexa Rank of 174. You don’t want to miss out on it, do you?

The good news is that you can handle this. I’m not talking about writing an article for the New York Times. And, so far, there isn’t very much competition to face while taking advantage of this opportunity.

I’m talking about “The Quiet Giant of Content Marketing,” also known as SlideShare (a social media website where you can upload your presentations and show them to the world). SlideShare’s features make it the ideal tool to grow your business. It’s a crowded site with a highly targeted audience and low competition.

Every Company Can Be a Media Company. And should.

Every Company Can Be a Media Company. And should. | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

"If there's a universal truth in the digital age it's that there's too much content and not enough time to consume it. Naturally, a challenge this large and far reaching is creating opportunities for innovators." writes Steve Rubel of Edelman on the new LinkedIn Tought Leaders section.

He goes on to explain how Scott Beale of Laughing Squid is a great example of using curation to become a media that serves the purpose of developing a company's brand in the age of online media.

"The lesson here is that any company can potentially benefit by thinking and acting like a media company (...) However,you don't necessarily need to create original content."

Great case study.

Social Media Marketing Ranks As B2B Marketers’ Most Popular Tactic

Social Media Marketing Ranks As B2B Marketers’ Most Popular Tactic | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

Eighty-seven percent of business-to-business (B2B) marketers now spread their message through social media, according to a new report from the Content Marketing Institute (CMI).

CMI's 2013 B2B Content Marketing Benchmarks, Budgets and Trends research report found that social media marketing outpaced company-written articles to become the most commonly used tactic for B2B marketers.

The report says that LinkedIn is the most popular social media platform for B2Bs with an 83 percent adoption rate. That percentage is up from a 71 percent rate last year. Facebook and Twitter came in second to LinkedIn with a tied adoption score of 80 percent.

In all, CMI says that B2Bs are using more marketing tactics than ever before. Tactics range from social media all the way to in-person events. According to the report, all tactics saw a rise in company adoption except print advertising, which stayed consistent from last year with a 31 percent adoption rate.

"We applaud [B2B] marketers for doing more and trying new tactics, although we must say we are pretty sure that throwing content at a customer is not the answer," CMI said in its report. "But it's all part of the progress we are making as we evolve from marketing departments into what are starting to look like B2B publishing departments."...

Content Curation for Professional Development | Online Marketing with Tech | Scoop.it

Over the many applications of Social Content Curation, Professional Development has been a strong trend. We keep observing it on Scoop.it but it's also been reported by Social Media influencers.

As more and more of us become Knowledge Worker, it should be no suprise that Content takes a growing importance on our Professional lives. So here's our take on it and why we announced this new integration with LinkedIn earlier today.
