The U.S. Department of Education says its online information-sharing network now houses 300,000 resources from a wide variety of sources, but questions remain about the initiative’s sustainability. (U.S.

Educators often become overwhelmed when sorting through pages and pages of relevant (or irrelevant) resources when searching the internet for material related to a specific content or lesson.  The U.S. Department of Education is attempting to make this easier for educators by creating something called, the Learning Registry.  Teachers will be able to access and add to this "portal" like network.  The resources will be rated and categorized by not only material but instructional level, content and popularity.  This Learning Registry has been in the works for 2 years.  Check it out!

Need an after school tutor?  Or a home school supplement to your curriculum?  Time 4 learning has many great reviews about their different packages.  Their software provides curriculum for students of all ages.  It also provides packages for after school tutoring, entire curriculums for home schooling or summer learning.  Reviews praised the content and lessons in the language arts and math sections.  However some reviewers noted content from the social studies section was inaccurate at times.  There was also reports of deletion of record keeping.  The resources, curriculum and lessons were reviewed as being thourough and comprehensive.  While others warned of using it as a sole means of recording student data.  Take a look for yourself!

Google is yet again investing into the educational arena.  Google will be partnering with edX next year to introduce MOOC's (Massive open online courses).  This will be a free way for students to invest time into particular topics that are of interest to them.  No one knows yet, whether MOOC's will offer degrees or credits but the hopes are high for the success of MOOC's. ~Holli :)
