Episode 106: Are Minority Students Excluded From Online Education? - Tech Therapy - The Chronicle of Higher Education | Online Education | Scoop.it

The latest discussions of MOOCs and other online courses often leave out consideration of minority students and the obstacles they might face in gaining access to technology, argues Corey Davis, director of online learning at Our Lady of the Lake University, in Texas. He challenges the Tech Therapy team and others to tell more-diverse stories as they consider the recent online boom.

How Disruption Can Help Colleges Thrive ~ Chronicle of Higher Ed

How Disruption Can Help Colleges Thrive ~ Chronicle of Higher Ed | Online Education | Scoop.it

by Clayton Christensen and Michael Horn

summary by Carnegie Perspectives

"Clay Christensen and Michael Horn write in The Chronicle of Higher Education: As disruptive innovation has crept into higher education in the form of online learning, traditional colleges are beginning to feel the pinch. Disruptive innovations have transformed many industries—computers, cars, accounting—by taking a sector so expensive, inconvenient, and complicated that it served only a limited number of people and turning it into one much more affordable, convenient, and simple. This describes exactly what has happened with online higher education, as it has enabled far greater access to higher education. And the pace of innovation is heating up."

College Is Going Online, Whether We Like It Or Not | Online Education | Scoop.it

Skittish college professors won't stop the digital disruption of higher education. This online educational revolution is the next wave, and it is still very early. Rarely has a societal problem been presented with such an ideal solution. We should embrace it passionately, because it's happening whether we do or not.

Online Education May Make Top Colleges More Elite

Online Education May Make Top Colleges More Elite | Online Education | Scoop.it

"Online education may have arrived at the upper echelons of higher education, but it's not going to make elite colleges any cheaper to attend. Massive open online courses and other online tools, however, may change many aspects of top undergraduate campuses. That was the conclusion of a private summit, held here on Monday and sponsored by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, at which many of online education's heaviest hitters discussed the future of residential higher education, particularly at elite institutions, in a digital age."
