Margossian's insight:

The power that can be created in an online communities can increase a company's image and generate positive feedback and traffic on the various social media platforms. This article summarizes the general use of social media in the plastic surgery industry. Research studies and surveys show that a general amount of the population of plastic surgeons use social media to promote their business. Most of them said that social media has been a productive tool in generating awareness and helping to grow their business. I found it interesting how cosmetic plastic surgeons said that Facebook, was the most effective media platform that helped spread word of mouth and generate positive reviews and more clientele. We we did our group presentations on which platforms that we found that Facebook was the least effective in terms of generating traffic for an organization or company, so that was very interesting to me. I feel like Facebook is so limited in terms of reaching a broad audience in terms of the platforms. This article also brought up the the point that social media can have negative connotations to it as well. Some of the plastic surgeons said that they received negative feedback when using social media to promote their services and business. This led people to saying that their credibility and professionalism can be doubted. So it's an internal online balance that all users of social media must come to understand that it can have both positive and negative effects for and to whom ever decides to engage in the use of it.

Margossian's insight:

I think that this article raised a variety of points in terms of having the world of social media pertaining to the construction industry. I thought that was a smart move by having certain power players as well as the majority of people in the construction field take a survey that way they can use the quantitative data to use the research in relation to the study. After taking BUS 469, I have come to realized how pertinent and powerful the world of social media is as well as the use of the platforms. Like Vaynerhuk stated, social media platforms is becoming the now and the new, and it's interesting to see how the construction industry has not been using these devices to the fullest of their potential The article list various steps that one can take to improve their social media presence. Of those steps I think formulate a strategy and get social are two steps that really stuck out to me. Getting social is the necessity now, people must be caught up with or at least close to being up to speed with the new media platforms and technology that is constantly being developed and improved in our world. Construction is an industry that will always be there, however if they want to maintain the status and title they need to develop a digital strategy that will make sure the industry will always be needed and live on.
