Will Personalised Pricing Take E-Commerce Back to the Bazaar? - The Business of Fashion

Will Personalised Pricing Take E-Commerce Back to the Bazaar? - The Business of Fashion | Mobile Commerce and Shopping | Scoop.it
LONDON, United Kingdom — Personalised pricing is as old as commerce itself. A market stall owner sizes up a prospective customer based on a wide range of signals — such as how she speaks and dresses — then offers her a special price: “For you, ten dollars.” Today, consumers are more used to standardised pricing and the ‘law of one price’ generally prevails, based on the logic that differences between prices for the same good are eliminated by market participants taking advantage of arbitrage opp
Charles Young's insight:

A fascinating article looking at how personal data is driving personalised pricing with online fashion. Tech taking e-commerce back to the old world of the Bazaar is an interesting concept and a great analogy.

Online shopping: average order values by platform 2014 | Statistic | Mobile Commerce and Shopping | Scoop.it
This statistic provides information on the average order value of online shopping orders worldwide in the second quarter of 2014, differentiated by platform. During that quarter, online orders which were placed through Android tablets had an average value of 127.23 U.S. dollars.
Charles Young's insight:

People often ask us why we chose the iPad as the first platform to launch Clinch on. This graph may be a little surprising to people. iPad sits third on the list of highest average order value sitting only behind Mac and Windows. Significantly higher than orders coming from iPhone, Android Tablets and Android phones. As the trend of mobile growth continues we should see the iPad (and Android tablets for that matter) numbers continue to grow.

Why Online Buyers Abandon Shopping Carts - ShipHawk Blog

Why Online Buyers Abandon Shopping Carts - ShipHawk Blog | Mobile Commerce and Shopping | Scoop.it
When looking at the top reasons why customers abandon shopping carts there is a trend: shipping. We offer solutions for the e-commerce business owner.
Charles Young's insight:

Through our significant user research when designing Clinch we discovered a reason for Shopping cart abandonment that is never mentioned in the surveys such as the one which this article is based on.

We have found that Users often place items into a Shopping cart as a type of 'hack' enabling them to see how some products may look side by side from the same store. This is as part of the 'Shopping' phase (deciding what to buy) and not the buying / checkout phase where the Shopping cart is normally used. This would be an interesting question for people to research, I am sure many E-Commerce Stores would be surprised by what they hear.

The ability for a user to see products of their choice, from one website or many, side by side, is a key reason why Clinch was built. We expect to be past the Apple AppStore review phase in the coming days. Not long now!.
