However, leveraging Twitter for this purpose requires a different strategy than someone would typically use for engagement.

There are clear rewards for businesses that make good-faith efforts to engage current and prospective customers through social media. Finding inspiration from love locks on bridges around the world — along with research that showed the red Nescafé cup to be a meaningful representation of the brand – Croatian agency Drap put together an interesting outdoor activation with a little digital tossed in.

Earlier this year, the agency locked thousands of red Nescafé mugs to bridges, benches and fences in and around two major Croatian cities.

The stunt was announced on social media and people were encouraged to unlock a mug using a Facebook application that would provide a combination to the lock based on their location.

How to Share Old Blogposts on Social Media

How to Share Old Blogposts on Social Media | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it

Social media advice seems to come in two flavors: what to do and how to do it.

Take, for instance, the advice to reshare content from your blog’s archives. This strategy seems to pay big dividends for the accounts who’ve embraced it. They’ve seen more traffic, more reshares, and more engagement even though the content itself isn’t brand new.

How to Collect Email Leads from Twitter in a Google Spreadsheet

How to Collect Email Leads from Twitter in a Google Spreadsheet | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it

One of the best features of Twitter that is relatively unknown to most users is their Lead Generation cards. Your tweet, see live example, will have a button and when another Twitter user clicks the button, their email address is sent to your application (which happens to be a Google spreadsheet in this case).

Whether you are a small website owner or an event organizer, you can use these Lead Generation cards to easily collect email addresses from Twitter users who may be interested in your product. For instance, Twitter users can subscribe to your email newsletter with a click without leaving the Twitter website. Event organizers can use Twitter’s Lead Generation Cards to capture email addresses of people who may be interested in attending an upcoming event....

What kind of first impression does your website make? A lot of that depends on how you design your home page. The home page is the entrance to your website, and the first page users will see. If your home page isn’t designed well, you won’t keep users on your website for long. That first impression can either get users to browse through and read your site, or leave with disappointment.

How to Plan a Social Media Strategy in 12 Steps

How to Plan a Social Media Strategy in 12 Steps | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it

It's important to have a set strategy for your social media marketing efforts, or you'll be flying blind. Here are 12 steps to take to help you put together your own social media strategy.

Unless you're a popular celebrity or a big, iconic brand, a lot has got to come together in order for you to succeed on social media. Not only do you need to have an engaged, loyal audience and something valuable to offer them, you need to be able to maintain a strong social presence by sharing timely, relevant content on a nonstop basis.

There's no rest for the weary on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and other such online communication channels.

If you make the development of a solid strategy a top priority, however, everything else should fall into place. A comprehensive strategic plan articulates the action you're going to take during the course of your campaign. It explains the who, what, where, when, how, and why of what you're going to do on social media.

No one plan fits all, of course, but to not have one carved out from the outset is like attempting to walk across a high wire without a safety net below. Proceed at your own risk.

So to minimize the chance of falling short of your expectations, here are a number of steps you can take to put together your own social media strategy, one that you and your colleagues can follow with the utmost confidence.

Will Apple's "Location Warnings" Be Educational Or Scary?

Will Apple's "Location Warnings" Be Educational Or Scary? | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it
Last week the subscription-only The Information wrote about Apple’s new “location warnings” and its potential impact on developers. This is something I explored from a user perspective on my personal blog last month.

Previously Apple enabled users to turn location off or on. Now there are three potential settings: “always,” “never” or “while using the app.” Developers are not compelled to offer “while using” however.

The really significant new element in iOS are “location warnings,” as The Information calls them, or location notifications. Apple sends a pop-up message to users that app X or Y is using location in the background and invites users to opt-in or change settings. Upon clicking “settings,” users are taken directly into the location-services area, showing all installed apps and their location settings.

Hashtags 101: How to Create Your Own #hashtag

Hashtags 101: How to Create Your Own #hashtag | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it
Many new Twitter users have a love/hate relationship with hashtags. Usually, when you start out on Twitter, you hate them – they’re confusing, overused, and they look funny. But as you become more comfortable with tweeting, you begin to realize that they are actually quite useful – they connect you to vast and varied communities you would otherwise never have discovered.

If you’re interested in creating your own hashtag, whether for your business, your personal brand or your celebrity fan club, this quick how-to guide will get you started.

Hashtags are a community-created way of organizing information on Twitter. And because of their grassroots origin, they are still a very open, egalitarian tool: anyone can create and use any hashtag.

If you’re brand new to hashtags, take a look at this hashtag etiquette guide before venturing out into Twitter’s Wild West.

Facebook vows to be more careful when it experiments on you

Facebook vows to be more careful when it experiments on you | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it
Facebook said Thursday it's increasing scrutiny over future research work it does on the social-media site, following a rash of criticism this past summer over one of its experiments.

Facebook, the biggest social-media company in the world, faced a backlash after researchers from the company and two universities published a paper earlier on their 2012 study that manipulated the News Feeds of nearly 700,000 users to find if the changes would affect someone's emotions. They found that if someone sees happy posts from friends, that person's posts in turn tend to be happier, while the opposite was true if someone saw friends writing more negative posts.

Facebook recently announced updates to business pages and added competitive intelligence analytics. And now, yet another round of changes focuses on cracking down on spam. I love the competitive intel feature, but I’ll admit, this is another change that makes me giddy.

You know all those ploys by companies large and small that feature cute pictures of cats that say “If you like cats, like and share this” [stupid photo]? Well if that’s what you’re doing to game your Facebook page views and reach, cut it out. Facebook announced several improvements to the News Feed, one of which targets these kinds of spammy posts. It was interesting (and not at all surprising) to note that this content actually originates from Brand Pages.

Storytelling can be complex and the information about storytelling, well, overwhelming. Secrets Of The Most Shared Business Publishers

Secrets Of The Most Shared Business Publishers | CNC Jewelry Post | Scoop.it

This week we used Insights data to see how some different business sites are performing on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter during the month of September to yesterday (September 1 to 24).

Business news is hotly discussed in the social space. Some of the most talked about digital news sites of recent times (Business Insider, Quartz) cover business daily, while stalwarts like the Wall Street Journal and Forbes have also made themselves very visible in the new social landscape.

We picked seven prominent sites and ran some queries in our Insights dashboard:

The Financial Times

The Wall Street Journal

Quartz

Business Insider

Harvard Business Review

Forbes

Bloomberg.com

We used the data to analyze the biggest stories by network, the most ‘social’ writers at different sites, and overall site performance. Insights also allowed us to graph their average share counts per story....
