Well when I saw this video I immidiately had to jump on facebook and make sure my friend from the USMC was ok because he is a police officer down in Riverside CA. I'm glad to find out he's ok. This just goes to show that being a police officer can be a very hard job, and dangerous. There is always the possibility of getting hurt even though many police are trying to help people and stop crime. I hope this man is captured very soon and this story along with the Marine that killed the Navy SEAL Sniper goes to show you that there are severe problems coming from some of the people that were supposed to be serving the country or community. I really wonder about those type of military and police that end up murdering innocent people here in the US, and I doubt they joined those agencies for the same types of reasons as most others did.
Melanie Wright's comment, February 9, 2013 2:17 AM
It is really unfortunate and sad to hear about things like this because although he may have been one officer that went off the deep end, it breaks trust among the community with police officers. As we've been reading it is really important that trust be there in order to achieve cooperation towards crime prevention. This causes me to question whether all of the hard power exerted by military officials and police captains is really necessary and whether or not it's the underlying cause for events like this. I also wonder if he displayed any signs before hand. I realize behavioral science is in no way perfect and nobody ever really knows how somebody with free will is going to act but it has come a long way and it seems they're usually pretty accurate. I feel that if they are to keep these institutions with all of this hard power they should be keeping closer tabs on the officer's mental state and behavior.

Sonia Tommo's curator insight, January 21, 2014 8:57 AM

Poverty in well known in India. In many books and magazines i have read, I am well aware of what the people in India go through just to put a plate of food infront of them which isnt even filled with the right nutrients may I add. Human trafficking is much more prevalent than people in the world assume it to be. Young women from India sign themsleves up to comapnies they do not even know thinking that they can support themsselves and thier family. But in the end they are tricked into another line of business which will scar them for life. Most of the women recruited by the agents come from severely deprived backgrounds and are often illiterate. Unable to verify inflated or misleading claims, they travel willingly. This causes these women to be placed and made to do things that they did not think they would be ever doing. Some of these women try to escape but realising the consequences and sometimes that their life is at risk causes them to stay and ruin thier lives. Some of these women have no choice due to the state of poverty they are in as they cannot leave knowing that this is the only way they can get by. A young women was forced to dance in a bar in Bahrain with 20 other women from the northwestern province of the Punjab by a violent trafficker before she drank chemicals to force him to bring her back home; this shows the extent that these women are brought to. With India being such a big country, the government cannnot tend to everybodys needs and problems. Campaigners admit that as abuses occur overseas they are difficult for Indian authorities to deal with. Many activits which i inferred from the passage are standing up and making a difference, although not all of these women can be saved, every life saved does make a difference.
