Husbands Who Yell at Their Wives Face up to 14 Years in Prison Under New Law

Husbands Who Yell at Their Wives Face up to 14 Years in Prison Under New Law | SocialAction2014 | Scoop.it

Shahreen Rahman's curator insight, November 25, 2014 11:06 AM

This article speaks about how our society is moving forward with applying consequences with spousal abuse. In England now they have a law to acknowledge the psychological part of the abuse. It says in the article that "Men who exercise “coercive control” over their partners by restricting their personal or financial freedom, or through overt criticism could face up to 14 years in jail". Having this law helps the other spouse have more freedom as well as a better emotional state. The new law will also alter the definition of domestic violence, adding psychological abuse along with physical abuse.

Adrita Abbas's curator insight, January 7, 2015 10:11 PM

I don't completely think this is right. There is such thing as freedom of speech, though i think is the conversation gets heated and there is violence involved, than there is a reason to go to prison. Being arrested for talking or yelling isn't logical, we all have rights. Also its a little unfair that there is no forming law about the wife being arrested for doing something. The law is flawed and should not be official because it is unfair. Spousal abuse is vice versa on both the man and woman.

Just saying "NO" is not the answer... Arkansas CURE
Says “YES” to rehabilitation for those who have erred

Join Us… To provide information on criminal justice through education and advocacy. Pick a state....any state, except Arkansas. When it comes to rehabilitation, treatment programming and 21st. Century prison reform, Arkansas is trailing too far behind.

Costing a mother over $8.00 a call to hear the voice of her son. Prisoners are assigned to the hoe squad when they enter an Arkansas prison…just as in the past and still called rehabilitation in 2014?

Most States have Prison Work Programs providing commercial job skills and overseen by civilian supervisors. Inmate education is proven to be the most effective program at reducing recidivism... Schools not jails.

Help Us with your Time…Or Donate To Help Advocate & Educate…Thanks!

Beat'n TheStreet

Tuesday 25 November

Meet 12.30 Stratford Station or 1pm Bridge House, 320 High Street, E15

No to social cleansing!
Repopulate the Carpenters Estate

Come down to Bridge House - together we are stronger.

Candice and her baby are homeless, relying on friends and relatives for somewhere to stay. They were offered a place in Liverpool last year.
Now she is being told by staff at Bridge House that she can have an appointment with her housing officer but she is likely to be offered outside of London and if she refuses they will close her case.

Bridge House is overflowing Monday to Friday with families with children of all ages who have been evicted and have nowhere to go. Many are being offered places outside of London, miles from friends, families, support networks and their children's schools.

Less than five minutes walk from Bridge House is the Carpenters Estate, where hundreds of decent flats lie empty - we must continue to force the council to put people in these homes.
