A new Facebook app by Random House seeks to help people find the right books while facilitating conversation and promotion of favorites books with friends.

According to a survey of IBM Institute - From social media to Social CRM -, consumers are increasingly using social media to gain recommendations, reviews and opinions from friends, family, experts and the collective social community. It seems that BookScout, a new Facebook application, would like build a bridge between social and e-commerce.

The definition of “product review” has changed. A Matter of Trust.

Word of mouth, peer-to-peer, price-comparisons, opinions, reviews, ratings and recommendations have been helped to making smart buying decisions. In 2005, Trendwatching was already talking about the Twinsumers. Today, the survey of Weber Shandwick shows that consumer attention is shifting more towards the opinions from other consumers. A Matter of Trust. The impact of this consumer behaviour is not confined to electronic sector, the subject of this study.

 

Let us end with the thought of Bradford Williams, President, North American Technology Practice, Weber Shandwick: "As the landscape of product reviews becomes more fragmented and complex, marketers need to pay more attention than ever to their influence in consumers’ buying decisions. Perhaps Product Reviews should be counted as the fifth ‘P’ in today’s CE marketing plans." What do you think of this idea?
