Fifa Opens Suarez Bite Claim Disciplinary Action

Fifa Opens Suarez Bite Claim Disciplinary Action | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
Luis Suarez could be banned for up to two years if he is found guilty of biting a player for the third time.
Bren's insight:

Banned for up to two years... if found guilty?  It is this kind of behaviour that we don't want our kids to copy.  There is no place in football for this kind of behaviour.  And we mustn't forget this is the third time he has done this if found guilty.  I watched the video clip and it sure as hell looks to me as if he lunged for that player with his nashers...

There is clearly something wrong with this man's head to keep behaving like this, unless of course he is just a bloody bully on the pitch.

Is two years long enough if he gets found guilty?  Nope I don't think so... I would ban him for life.  We don't need people like that in the game.

Iraqis Told: 'Take Up Arms And Defend Country'

Iraqis Told: 'Take Up Arms And Defend Country' | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
The Iraqi Prime Minister claims the Islamists are being driven out as President Obama admits the army's collapse is "a problem".
Bren's insight:

Sorry I have got to have a rant here... what did we expect?  All things in the garden to be rosy?  We went into Iraq without a game plan and when we ousted Saddam we left a power vacuum.  Now that all the troops of pulled out... they are going to fight amongst themselves who gets power.

Did we really think we could enforce democracy onto people, who don't have a clue of how to handle it?  It has taken civil wars, conflicts and god knows what else until we learnt to have democracy via the ballot box.  These countries, like Egypt and Libya have that journey to make until they like us ... put down the gun and elect via the ballot box.  Their culture is different to ours, and they are on a learning curve, but our pig-headed warmongering politicians didn't think of the end game and what could happen... did they?  Blair jumped on Bushes bandwagon and in a way we have disestablished that region.  Afghanistan will go the way of Iraq once all the troops have gone.

Bren's insight:

Do you know what?  I don't care what my GP earns.  I don't care about targets.. all I care about is the standard of healthcare.   I care abou whether or not I can get an appointment with my GP when I am ill.  I care about the time my GP spends trying to diagnose what is wrong with me.  Patient care must come first.  And by publishing GP's pay, if Jeremy Hunt things it will change things, it won't.   Just another bloody mad-brain scheme from this Government.

Peaches Geldof labels Katie Hopkins a 'Rent-a-gob' as they battle it out on This Morning | Showbiz | News | Daily Express | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
SHE'S already managed to wind up both Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield during her regular appearances on This Morning, but it looks as though even the famous mums are getting fed up of Katie Hopkins and her outspoken opinion.
Bren's insight:

Having read Katie Hopkins timeline and how she persecutes the family of a missing child.. I think Peaches Geldof summed it up correctly when she labelled Hopkins a rent-a-gob for the Sun.

Now I don't buy newspapers online.. and I definitely wouldn't even consider paying a penny for a red top that has Hopkins in it as a columist.

Hauled to court, grandmother accused of harassment by her son's widow in four-year battle to see her grandchildren | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
For four years, Norma Moore, from Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire, tried to get in touch with her son’s young twins, whom she hadn’t seen since he died in 2009.
Bren's insight:

Such a sad story... unfortunately and sadly in this world there are people who are prepared to use their children in order to get back at others.. be it the ex or the ex's family..

Through them being selfish apart from hurting the grandparents who don't see the child, they are depriving their own child of having a relationship with one set of grandparents.

It bloody annoys me, immensely, when people use children in this manner.. poor kids.. and poor grandparents for having to miss out on so much.

Some ex-partners are just so vindictive it is beyond belief.

Should children of separated couples divide their time between their parents' homes?

Should children of separated couples divide their time between their parents' homes? | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
Psychologist Penelope Leach, whose parenting books have sold millions, has caused controversy by claiming that there's evidence that separation from their mothers "reduces brain development" and might give rise to "unhealthy attachment issues". Do other parenting experts agree?
Bren's insight:

What a load of bollocks... to put it bluntly. What causes children emotional distress and probably causes lack of brain development, is having to be piggy in the middle with two warring parents. Children are resilient, if a relationship breaks down children need to know that it is not their fault that mum and dad no longer live together and that both parents love them dearly.

They also need to bond with their fathers and having weekends at dad's can be beneficial in developing that bond.

All the likes of this article does, is give ammunition for those women who refuse to allow their kids proper access with their fathers. Now they will use this as a reason why?

Unfortunately all too often, kids are used a tool to bash the absent parent with... and anybody who does that is not worthy of the title of mum or dad.

Anjem Choudary Brick Lane protest warns Muslim shop owners over alcohol sale | UK | News | Daily Express | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
DOZENS of Muslim protesters walked with one of Britain's most controversial hate preachers to demand restaurants and shops in one of London's most popular areas stop selling alcohol.
Bren's insight:

If this story is true.. then it is appalling that this march was even allowed to go ahead..  If I walked up and down my street and said people living in odd number houses would be flogged if they did this or that.. I would be arrested for threatening behaviour..  wouldn't I?   This is not about being anti-muslim or anything.. this is about the law being broken.. with threats to harm people.. which the last time I looked was illegal in this country..

I would not be allowed to act like this.. and neither should any other religion..
And it seems to me. if this story is true,  as if the Police are pandering to groups like this if they don't stop such rallies taking place, especially if they think police intervention would cause unrest.

The Current Age of Consent of 16 Doesn't Protect Young People, It Criminalises Them

The Current Age of Consent of 16 Doesn't Protect Young People, It Criminalises Them | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
The existing consent at 16 law was introduced over 100 years ago in a puritanical Victorian era. Since then, society has moved on to more informed and enlightened attitudes about sex...
Bren's insight:

Sex is not just about two consenting adults.. it is about trust, love and relationships and those involve maturity. Some sixteen year olds are not mature enough to be left alone yet alone have a sexual relationship.

Yes all the facts could be there to prove that kids reach puberty earlier.. but the question is are they adult enough to accept that change in puberty.. my experience is no.

If you lower the age to say 14, then 12 years and even younger will be entering into sexual relationships.  One thing about kids is that they will try anything they know they are not legally allowed to.. for instance going into a pub and buying an alcoholic drink.   They get the thrill out of doing this because they have managed to fool some landlord or bar maid into serving them a drink.. They smoke behind the bike shed because they think it is grown up.. and the same with lowering the age of consent, younger people will think it is cool to have sex.

Would Peter Tatchell, say young people should be able to vote at 14? Of course he wouldn't.  If youngsters are not legally an adult until they are 18, then how can you expect 14 years to be socially responsible enough to have sex.  Some 14 year olds are not mature enough ... end of.. and it is these that the law protects.  FFS... you have a whole life-time of having sex once you reach 16.. why the rush?

It does make me laugh though.. you can have sex at 16 but you can't vote at 16.  I agree with Peter Tatchell that those  who have consensual sex should not be labelled sex offenders and should not be on the sex offenders register.  But laws are there and it doesn't criiminalise under age sex imo.  There needs to be an age limit as I said before.. it you lower the legal age limit to 14, then kids younger than that will want to try sex out.

Peter Tatchell also speaks about a tiered level of consent whereby providing both are consenting and there is only a 2-3 year gap these kids should not be prosectued.  But again Peter doesn't think about the young school girl of 14 coming on 15, who has an older boyfriend of say 18+. Girls mature a lot quicker than boys do.. and therefore for a girl of 14-15 who has matured will look  for an elder boy to form a relationship and not one of her own age..

The only thing I agree with him on is these kids not being on the sex offenders register.  Funny though.. all of us seemed to grow up OK with this law... and yes there was under-age sex going on.. But again those caught would be given a swift telling off and would have not been put on the sex-offenders register back in those days.

Why this woman makes her fiancé take lie detector test if he leaves house

Why this woman makes her fiancé take lie detector test if he leaves house | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
If you love somebody, set them free, so the song goes – advice which Debbi Wood is unable to take on board.
Bren's insight:

Othello syndrome.. new one on me.  I'd call it a bloody control freak.. Sorry but this behaviour is not natural.. and no man will take this behaviour forever, without cracking at some point.

Wonder how she would feel if she kept being accused of looking at men.. Well I hope they don't holiday abroad where topless bathing goes on.. cos the poor bloke will definitely need Factor 50 on the back of his head and neck.. and an appointment at his GP upon his return, where he has a crick in his neck... by having to look down at the ground all the time.

Breastfeeding: New Mums To Get Shop Vouchers

Breastfeeding: New Mums To Get Shop Vouchers | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it
A Government-funded scheme will see new mothers offered shopping vouchers in an attempt to make them breastfeed.
Bren's insight:

As much as I agree with breastfeeding babies, but seriously I don't see why woman should be rewarded for doing it.  I thought this Country had no money yet we can find money for projects like this.. whilst we evict people from their homes because they have a spare bedroom.

There  are women out there who would love to breastfeed their babies but can't due to various reasons.. either they babies wouldn't take from the breast or because they had problems that prevented them being breastfed.

Those women won't be rewarded.. which in my view could play heavily on a young mum's mind, especially if she wanted to breastfeed and she couldn't.. it could make her feel inadequate as a mother.

Seriously I can't believe this Government at times..

Britain's longest serving poppy seller, 91, is back for her 75th year

Britain's longest serving poppy seller, 91, is back for her 75th year | On My Front Porch | Scoop.it

Britain’s longest-serving poppy seller is raising money for the Royal British Legion for the 75th consecutive year having sold over 30,000 poppies in nearly eight decades.

Devoted Olive Cooke, 91, vowed to always sell poppies after her husband Leslie was killed in action during the Second World War when she was just 21.

She began selling poppies in 1938 but the flowers took on new significance following his death on naval duty just two years after their wedding.

Mrs Cooke has maintained her hard work ever since raising thousands for charity over the past eight decades.

Mother-of-three Mrs Cooke was back on the streets this week in the run up to Remembrance Day, continuing to raise vital funds for the much-loved organisation.

She said: 'I will never give up - it is important to remember the people who died in the wars, and are still dying now.

'It was my main interest following the war and I became the standard bearer in the Bedminster Down Women’s section and took office of secretary and later chairman.

'My father, Fred Canning, was in the Royal Irish Regiment and he had told me tales of how he fought at Gallipoli in the First World War, ever since I was a little girl sitting on his knee.

'I carried the standard for 54 years until 1998. I sold poppies every year and was given a special medal from the Royal British Legion for 66 years of continuous selling.

'I’ve now added even more years to that and am up to 75 now.'

Mrs Cooke, who lives in Fishponds, Bristol, met husband Leslie Hussey-Yeo in 1939, a handsome sailor with the Royal Navy who was about to leave the service and settle down.

But the start of the Second World War meant he had to continue serving on submarines and he was killed in action in 1943 when Mrs Cooke was just 21.
