Boundless - The Free Textbook Replacement

Boundless - The Free Textbook Replacement | On Libraries, Learning and the 21st Century | Scoop.it

An intriguing concept - bringing together free/open content/sources related to specific topics/areas of study.

It is, however, somewhat limited in its scope at this point, as well as being US-focused, eg. the History "book" is US History-only.

I looked in via the "Self Learner" section, as the Student and Educator options were asking for institution name plus the details of the book/text being sought. Not having a text in mind for the limited subjects offered, I thought the self learner option, which only requires you pick a subject, would give me some idea of what was on offer.

But have a go, and see what you think - there is such a push to move to a digital framework for our curricula and resources - maybe this is what you are looking for?

I love a good fantasy series. Tolkien got his claws in my reading soul from a young age, leaving me wide open for the multitude of authros who've marched on through over the folowing decades.

Here's someone else's list of their Top Fantasy Books and Series for your consideration... I've had a look and decided there are new series for me to explore.

12 Essential Social Media Cheat Sheets

12 Essential Social Media Cheat Sheets | On Libraries, Learning and the 21st Century | Scoop.it
There is going to be resistance to social media as a classroom tool. That resistance is going to be with us for a while - and not just among the "old guard" of teachers. It is a scary prospect for some people, and also one that sits at odds with their methodoloy and world view - social media = invasive tech.

But you're going to need to provide support to people who've fought the flow, and here are some "cheat sheets" that you can hand them, to help ease their transition, and maybe make it a less scary prospect.

Seriously, It’s Time To Manage Your Online Reputation [Infographic] | Edudemic | On Libraries, Learning and the 21st Century | Scoop.it

A person's online presence is becoming a yardstick for their suitability for employment and promotion. Fantastic response to something we've all experienced at some time in our classrooms - when that task we've worked so hard to develop, and are so sure is going to be brilliant, drops like a lead balloon. What I really like is the student engagement in determining a solution, the involvement of their interests, and the whole making them aware of the demands of the syllabus.
