New Teachers: Designing Learning Environments | On education | Scoop.it
Why does the physical design of classrooms matter? Mark Phillips discusses this question in "A Place for Learning: The Physical Environment of Classrooms" and offers examples of and resources for turning impersonal spaces into student-friendly havens of learning. For further inspiration, VideoAmy has compiled some videos to help you begin to conceptualize your classroom vision in "Five-Minute Film Festival: Classroom Makeovers." Be sure to take a look at the resource list at the end of her post.

Use our methods - Bootcamp Bootleg | d.school, Stanford University

Use our methods - Bootcamp Bootleg | d.school, Stanford University | On education | Scoop.it

"Every year, we put together an overview of the current iteration of the design process we’re teaching, along with some of our most-used tools. The guide was originally intended for recent graduates of our Bootcamp: Adventures in Design Thinking class. But we’ve heard from folks who’ve never been to the d.school that have used it to create their own introductory experience to design thinking.  The Bootcamp Bootleg is more of a cook book than a text book, and more of a constant work-in-progress than a polished and permanent piece."

"If You Build It" film follows designer activists, Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller to rural Bertie County, the poorest in NC, where they work with local high school students to help transform both their community and their lives. Pilloton and Miller lead their students through a year-long design and build project that does more than just teach basic construction skills. It shows 10 teenagers the power of design-thinking to re-invent not just their town but their own sense of what's possible.
