Battle of the mirrorless monsters - Sony A7R vs Olympus OM-D E-M1 | EOSHD

Battle of the mirrorless monsters - Sony A7R vs Olympus OM-D E-M1 | EOSHD | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

Can Olympus survive? The scandal is over, but sales are faltering. Their prized position in the mirrorless market is threatened by a revitalised Sony and their Alpha range. This supersedes the high end of the NEX line (and dispenses with the NEX brand altogether); bringing full frame sensors to the table and in the case of the A7R – 36MP and nearly 14 stops dynamic range. My full review of the Sony A7R is coming soon, ditto for the E-M1. Until then let’s take a look at how the top of the range mirrorless cameras perform head to head – not just at video but stills too. Something about the A7R left me yearning for a proper DSLR over Christmas so I went out and bought a Nikon D700. Despite being older than the DSLR video revolution itself this camera still holds up today for stills and it has much better AF than the Nikon Df, for a lot less money. It also lacks a video mode like the Df! Pure photography! Why does the Sony A7R leave me, a big mirrorless fan, yearning to shoot stills on a D700 and video on a 5D Mark III?......

Photographers.travel – From Nikon to Olympus | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

I don’t need the hassle of a big heavy system of bodies and lenses, nor do I need to “look the part” of being a pro photographer. It’s a pain having to drag heavy gear around with you all the time. All I need is the knowledge that the equipment I am using is capable of performing and right now I am very happy with the performance of the OM-D system and Olympus’ m43 lenses. They make me want to take my camera everywhere and that’s something I just haven’t ever wanted to do with my D700.

Best New Camera of 2013 - by Luminous Landscape

Best New Camera of 2013 - by Luminous Landscape | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

I know. I know. "Best Of The Year" awards are such a cliché. Well – mea culpa, is all I can say. I think they can be fun and informative.

Here it is then – drum roll please maestro – the best new camera of 2013, in my book, was the Olympus OM-D E-M1 (B&H Link, in case you decided to buy one), which I first reported on with a field review in Paris back in September.

Heather Broster's insight:

Even Michael Reichmann of Luminous Landscape feels the E-M1 is the camera of the year!

hands on with the e-m1 | Photo This & That | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

I really like the Olympus PEN range and they impressed me from the start. Olympus has shown itself to be one of a small number of camera manufacturers who really innovate. I played with the first OM-D, the E-M5, which impressed. However, the E-M1 just jumps ahead, light years, over anything Olympus have produced and most cameras on the market.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review by PhotolisticLife

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review by PhotolisticLife | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

My overall opinion of this camera is it’s a very capable work horse that will appease pros with high expectations as well as budding photographers that want a camera on the cutting edge of technology. It’s easy to get intimidated by all the dials, buttons, and settings on a sophisticated camera but the EM1 feels like the iPhone of cameras… everything is where it needs to be and the camera is easy to use for all levels of photographer.

Another nice review.

Finally here it, is my take on the Olympus OM-D E-M1. I’ve been using the camera for roughly two months now and I am loving it. Earlier this year I also did a review on the Fuji X100s and people seemed to like it, that’s why I decided to write my second product review ever. But this time I…

Shooting in New York with the Olympus OMD-EM1 » Neil Buchan-Grant - The Blog

Shooting in New York with the Olympus OMD-EM1 » Neil Buchan-Grant - The Blog | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

In December 2013 I set sail for New York on the Queen Mary 2 with London print model Irina Sosnova, anOlympus OMD EM1 and a bag of lenses.

The weather was dreadful for most of the trip and we only managed to get out on the deck in the sunshine  for about 15 very windy minutes. It was so windy Irina thought her eyelashes were going to come off and I’m sure onlookers were placing bets as to how long her flimsy silk dress would stay on her body! That said, we had good fun on the ship and I even won $120 on the bingo! beginners luck:)

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Visits the Distillery | Pro Photo Blog | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

A few weeks back, our friends at Olympus Canada came for a visit, bringing their hottest new mirrorless camera – The OM-D E-M1 to demo. Even though we got a chance to review its features, we were left wanting more. Just our luck, Olympus came back and let us explore the E-M1 for a whole afternoon, so we took full advantage by packing up the camera and heading down to one of Toronto’s most scenic attractions – the Distillery district.

Review: Olympus OM-D E-M1 - by Dallas on FotoZones | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

If you’re like me you will probably skip to the end of any product review and read the summary before delving into the parts that are important to you. I’ll save you the bother and tell you upfront that if you’re looking for a well designed, well equipped, excellent piece of photographic equipment. It’s a work of art. Just go get one. It’s everything a camera should be. There, I said it - are you back from buying it yet?

Olympus OM-D E-M1 - Review | Henry's Note | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

What makes the E-M1 a really good camera? The answer is simply the phenomenal image stabilization and outstandingly well performing automatic focus system. E-M1 is powerful and capable camera which brings much rejoicing to the photographers who choose this camera.

Testing Non-Native Glass on the E-M1

Testing Non-Native Glass on the E-M1 | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

I was teasing Olympus on the podcast that I was one of the first to see the OM-D E-M1, and one of the last to actually get to test it. But I have it now. I've used the flagship Micro Four Thirds camera for two shoots so far. The first one was an outdoor family portrait assignment and the second was a model shoot in the studio.

I love M.Zuiko lenses but it is nice to think outside of the box!

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review: FURnFEATHER.net

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review: FURnFEATHER.net | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

The Olympus E-M1 can be summed up in two words.  Capable and Refined.  More expensive cameras, with a full frame sensor, will outperform the E-M1 for noise, but the E-M1 can hold it's own against ANY of the APS-C cameras which dominate today's dSLR market.

Heather Broster's insight:

The E-M1 compared to the E3, and as a Leica R replacement. Very unique perspective.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Review by Photographic Wanderings | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

I’m a bit biased, because the moment I read the announcement for this camera, I knew this was the one I was waiting for. I liked the E-M5 but had a few problems with it, which this camera on paper seemed to address. I found it also addresses them in practice.

Heather Broster's insight:

More of a long hands-on than a full review but a good read nonetheless.

Amy Grant in Greeneville with the E-M1 - Reba Baskett Photography

Amy Grant in Greeneville with the E-M1 - Reba Baskett Photography | Olympus OM-D E-M1 | Scoop.it

Last night was my first time shooting a concert with my Olympus EM-1. I can say it is much faster than the EM-5 shooting a show. The auto-focus grabbed much faster. The only bummer was I did not rent a fast lens and the Olympus 12-40mm 2.8 just did not have the reach I needed so I ended up using the Olympus 40-150mm, even though it is a much slower lens. I can’t wait for Olympus to come out with their 40-150mm 2.8 zoom next year!

Heather Broster's insight:

Two things I love - Amy Grant and the E-M1. Great work Reba!
