Annie M Herbert's curator insight, December 16, 2013 9:45 PM

Sounds like a great place to start students understanding what their emotional intelligence is.  Need to convince students that emotional intelligence makes a difference.

What a quote:

"Your ability to concentrate on the work you're doing or your schoolwork, and to put off looking at that text or playing that video game until after you're done ... how good you are at that in childhood turns out to be a stronger predictor of your financial success in adulthood than either your IQ or the wealth of the family you grew up in,"

Another great quote:

When an emotionally intelligent person experiences a failure or setback, he or she is able to bounce back quickly. This is in part because of the ability to mindfully experience negative emotions without letting them get out of control, which provides a higher degree of resilience.

There Is No Such Thing As A Dumb Idea

There Is No Such Thing As A Dumb Idea | Ollin oppivuodet | Scoop.it

HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE A DUMB IDEA?

There Is No Such Thing As A Dumb Idea

We should learn: All our thinking and attitude to the own ideas is our own perception of reality. We think that an idea is not good enough because we don't trust our own talent and potential.

The point is that every idea has merit, because whether or not the idea sounds good, or is laid out perfectly, it can be worked and modified and morphed into absolute brilliance.

Is it not often the case that we have a wonderful idea and instead of pursuing it and carrying it out, we reflect and rationalize the idea if it is good enough? And while we think and think, the idea loses suddenly value and at last we discard the idea. When this process is repeated steadily, self-confidence gets lost and one day we are convinced to have only dumb ideas.

We should learn that self-doubt is counterproductive for creativity!

BELIEVE IN YOUR TALENTS - BELIEVE IN YOU!

BELIEVE IN YOUR IDEAS!

Groundbreaking ideas are no longer a luxury when success is contingent upon an organization's ability to adapt, innovative, and improve. We need look no further than Kodak, Sears, or Sony for validation that status-quo thinking is the fast-track to failure. How, then, can organizations break free of conventional thinking to spark creativity?
