Colorado Firecamp, Little Grass Valley Tree Felling Accident, lessons learned

Gordon Scott's insight:

Lessons learnt from accidents are a good way of learning the causes of accidents and what steps can be taken in the future to reduce or eliminate the risk.

This article documents lessons learnt from a tree felling accident in the little valley and the staff involved in the incident got together and shared their views what were the causes. The lessons were grouped into three categories planning, operations and contingency planning and detailed numerous suggestions such as the need for safey breifings to detail who is qualified to compete certain tasks, requirement for more chainsaw certifiers and the need to clearly identify the sire supervisor or foreman.

Taking about the incident helps to get the workers thinking about safety and helps to identify potential future hazards.
