Ragtime, the Musical closed on a triumphant note at the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre, Sunday night, June 16, ending a 15 day/night run with the entire run sold out–not only sold out but standing ovations for the cast curtain calls and another standing ovation for the orchestra as exit music played and the audience encircled them to show their appreciation.

At the 2013 Bank of America Celebration at the Station, special guests Oleta Adams and Musicorps, a group of wounded veterans who find solace and recovery through the healing power of music, performed Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" with the Kansas City Symphony. Bank of America Celebration at the Station is the largest FREE Memorial Day Weekend event in the Midwest. The Kansas City Symphony, led by Music Director Michael Stern, performs patriotic favorites against the backdrop of Kansas City's historic Union Station. Apparently, Thor doesn’t like jazz.

Thor, of course, is the Norse god of thunder (and, outside of Marvel comics, of lightning and storms). Two years ago, Thor wiped clean the second Prairie Village Jazz Festival. Last year, he vented his rage on Rhythm and Ribs. And this past weekend he decided one day of smooth jazz in Corporate Woods was quite enough, as an afternoon storm tore through the grounds and cancelled Saturday evening’s Jazz in the Woods.

May 9th was the date for the Kansas City Ballet Guild’s annual Spring Luncheon at the River Club. Guests enjoyed delicious fare and beautiful floral arrangements from Craig Sole. President Melissa Petet thanked the outgoing Guild board and welcomed Jane Webster, incoming president; and the 2013-2014 board. The Nutcracker Ball will be held on December 6th. Susan Bubb and Megan Bubb-Cribb are serving as the co-chairmen.
