The Barn Players opened their 2013-14 season on Friday Sept. 20 with Spring Awakening. Spring Awakening is from the book and lyrics by Steven Slater with music by Duncan Sheik and directed by Eric Magnus. The production is based on the play by Frank Wedekind. Written in 1891 Wedekind had to self-publish the play which was banned in Germany for a time, due to its frank portrayal of taboos.

Company opened on Broadway in April of 1970 and ran for 690 performances before closing in January of 1972.

Miss Saigon returns to the Starlight Theatre | KC Stage Reviews

It would be interesting, I think, to some day see a double bill consisting of Miss Saigon and its operatic parent, Madame Butterfly. Puccini's original tale of careless adventurism in early 20th-century Japan has in the hands of Richard Maltby Jr and Alain Boublil dropped right into the chaotic last days of Viet Nam and afterwards, bringing a timeliness that hits uncomfortably close to the mark. But then, that is precisely its job.
